I upated the drivers on my Nforce3 150 motherboard and half of my 1024mb of memory doesn't show up. It is one 1024 module with Infineon chips. I am not sure if the two are related. All works well, but the computer only sees half the RAM. Very strange....

Hello there...

Post your motherboard make & model. Did you just update the chipset drivers or did you update the BIOS as well?

Motherboard is a NVidia FN 85 (Shuttle SN85G4 V2). I updated the chipset drivers, not the Bios.

Many thanks for any assistance!

interesting. after doing a bit of searching regarding this issue, it seems that in other cases, the problem had been remedied by changing from two 512 sticks to one 1024mb stick. however, in your case, you're already using a single 1GB stick...

some of the other threads i have found in various forums suggests that matching two 512 sticks (revision #) solves the problem.

post back to ensure you have the single 1gb stick, just to be sure.

The one problem I see in this is that you have not been able to verify that this is "not" a problem with the memory itself. I would not be too quick to suspect the mobo or bios.

Thats next. In the meantime (dumb idea, but I did it), I attempted to re-install Windows XP. Well The install started and was underway, when it said it could not find a S something driver (my DVD burner is SATA). It requested that I put the driver on a floppy and hit the S key to install. Well my XPC SN85G4V2 does not have a floppy drive , so I was wondering if I could load the driver on a copy of the XP install disc or put on a flash drive. Why would Windows require the file to be on a floppy only?

some dusty corner of my brain tells me there is a BIOS update to address an issue with infineon memory. couple versions back I think.

Yes, you can load 3rd party drivers without a floppy but you'll have to prepopulate your install media with them. Look up unattended installs on MS.
