Hard Decision

Unfortunately my trusty 15GB IBM drive is starting to make noises, i.e. the click of death... NOOOOOOOO

Anyway, should I get a maxtor 40GB 7200rpm, or two maxtor 20GB 7200rpm in raid 0.

Raid 0 with two hard drives will allow me to use the full 40 Gigs right??

Also, should I get IBM drives instead, this would require ordering off the internet, and I want to avoid shipping costs and time delays...

What do you do with the Hard drives?

In most people usage RAID0 is a waste of time, money and effort. In average use Seek Time is by far the most important statistic in drive speed, and RAID0 doesn't help seek time.

If you happen to be doing something that is transfer rate limited, then get RAID0, but for the most part it really won't help your speed much.

IDE RAID is flaky at best... stick with one 40 GB drive, you will not regret it.
