Thanks guys, I was just trying to get some people to post some better deals. I am trying to set up a RAID 6 setup and I need a few drives for it.

Can anyone find a better deal on the large Seagates?

since we are on hds.. anyone heard anything about the new maxtorIII line...
Native command queuing for 2X improved random read performance over previous generation MaXLine Warranty: Manufacturer Warranty 5 Years has the same specs as the diamondmax10 but the warrenty is longer... "These third-generation MaXLine drives offer up to 300GB storage capacity and are designed for mean time to failure (MTTF) of 1 million hours (based on a statistical sample) for low-I/O duty cycle midline and nearline applications" just wondering if i should get me one of those bad boys or a diamondplus 10...

If it is Maxtor, I'm sure they screwed something up. They're not the kind of company that makes a great product every-so-often, practically all of their crap since 2000 has been pretty shitty. Talk to anyone that has a Dell Dimension ordered for Home (opposed to office) and they'll tell you they've had their HD replaced. This is because Dell and Maxtor had an exclusive contract through 2003 and most of 2004, leaking almost 700,000 crappy Maxtor drives into home model Dimensions.

Over at SR, the failure rate on the 740dx (series 6) maxtor ATA drives is 30% after 1 year of service. Yes, almost 1/3 of these drives fail.

Are there people who get lucky with Maxtor? Probably. Will you be one of them? Don't bet on it.

EKKC this link will explain what a RIAD 6 is for ya. Similar to RIAD 5, in my opinion it is the best way to make sure you don't loose your info across mutiple drives. It takes 4 drives gives you the space of 3 and if one fails you don't loose your info.

Enjoy

Wow, I can say the same crap about WD. USED to be good, now I will not take one if given away. I stopped doing an RMA on drives after I had to do (4) within 18 months on the same drive and now another one is acting up. I personally would rather roll my dice with Maxtor at this time. Heck, Seagate or even Samsung or Hitachi could not be work IMO.

I've had a DiamondMax 9 for the past 7 months. No problems till a few days ago. But right now I'm not sure if it was the hard drive or my motherboard.
