Hard Drive going bad?

I have recently built a new computer (a few months ago) and have recently started having problems. While downloading torrents my computer would restart and I would hear the hard drive spin back up (you know the whine and then the click). So I thought my D drive was going. To test it, I tried to defrag my D drive and the computer rebooted and did the same exact thing. Just to make sure, I tried defraging my C drive and had no problems. Since my D drive is a WD that is still under warranty, I quickly filled out an advanced RMA form online and pulled the drive. Still waiting to get that drive so I can back up the information. But now my computer is still doing it, only now I am not downloading torrents. Sometimes it reboots just after I log into Windows, sometimes it does it while I am just looking at a webpage. 90% of the time I can hear the hard drive spinning back up. Could my C drive be going too?

i'm no expert, and don't be surprised if i'm way off on this, but if all your data is still there, it can't really be the drives fault?

maybe it's your RAM or somethign that's causing reboot. could you list your system specs so we know what we're talking about?

You might want to check your power settings for the spin up thing - hibernate sleep WOL WOM screensaver etc., especially HDD power off time
You also need to turn off auto restart so you can get a BSOD screen
(right click on my computer, choose properties, advanced, startup and recovery)

You could try turning on the HDD SMART function in bios - forewarns crash
Also, you should most def run the HDD manuf drive test for bad sectors
Norton (or other) AV running in background???
You need to stop all processes, other than kernal related while defragging
Or, try in safe mode.

A stealth virus running could also do this, you need to do a real thorough scan.

Rig in sig...

Edit: I did lose the data from my torrent during one of the reboots... had to restart from the beginning. I will try to RMA the ram since it is OCZ EL Platinum and I have failed one test in memtest (test 7). This was a month before this started happening though, so I don't think it's related...

I already tried reformatting so I am pretty sure a virus is out of the question.. I will definately have to try your other suggestions. When I get home I will let you know how it goes.
