Hard drive problem

I have a Maxtor external firewire drive. Recently it decided not to let me gain access to it. The green power light stays on as well as the red activity light. I can feel the disk spinning as well. I have another drive just like it and a few other external drives and they all work fine. I tried disk management but it does not show up in there even with all the other drives disconnected. I tried swapping out the PCB with the other identical drive and still no luck, also tried just swapping the casing with the plug in on the other drive and no luck there either. I tried Stellar Phoenix and it can see the drive but cannot access it, unless I am not doing something right with the program. Also worth noting that when I unplug the power cable the red activity light stays on.

I hope someone here has an answer as to what might be wrong and hopefully one that doesnt involve disk recovery copmanies. I will gladly try other drive utilities, any suggestions? I am guessing that hooking it up as a slave out of the enclosure wont do much good?

Try hooking it up as a slave hdd. You have a better chance of correcting the problem this way. If it shows up after being a slave but you cannot access it still, most likely you have a corrupted FAT table or MBR. You can try re-building the FAT or MBR using the Recovery console on the XP cd.
