Hard drive problems

Hey,

I currently have 2 hard drives in my pc, a 40 and an 80 gig.
They are set up as
1st channel: 40gig as mastor (my xp drive)
2nd channel: 80 gig as mastor and a DVD-ROM as slave

I recently reinstalled windows, and I deleted the partion off the 80 gig, but didn't create a new one at the time ( because i was erasing the 80 and trying to keep the data on the 40 intact, and switch from having the 80 as a boot drive to the 40 as the boot drive, and somewhere i screwed up)

the 80 doesn't show up in my computer as being there (well being the D:\ drive, or any drive) but it does show up in device manager as working okay. I think I just need to put a partion on it, but how do u do that under XP (pro)?

My friend had this problem and he said to just reinstall windows again, but I don't really want to do that for about the 5th time this month.

Check to see if the drive is shown in the Control Panel/Admistrative Tools/Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management. If it is then you should be able to partition and format it from there. Since it is showing in the Device Manager, I believe it will also show under Disk Management. If not then creating a partition using the WinXP CD and selecting re-install until you get to the window that shows the drives. You can create a partition and then abort the install. The drive can then be formatted under WinXP.
