Hard drive question

Simple question,
I want to get another hard drive. If I buy the Maxtor ATA/100 drive which uses an 80-conductor cable, can I still hook up my ATA/66 Drive to the 80-conductor cable as a slave and will this work? I'm aware that both still use the 40-pin connector, I'm just making sure..

Both ATA66 and ATA100 should be using the 80-pin IDE ribbons for max performance. But either will work on a 40-pin cable. If you are planning on not running them at their max, consider changing the drive software down from ATA66/ATA100 (since this is what their default is). In other words, both drives probably came defaulted at ATA66 and ATA100 transfer rate. If you are not going to be running them at these rates, change the rates down to ATA33 on the drives themselves.
