Hard Drive question?

What benifits if any will I notice In a Hard drive with an 8mb cache compared to a 2mb cache ? Thanks

a slight speed increase.....you may notice things load a bit faster, and since they are close to the same price in some cases, it's worth it to get them.

Plus....and a big plus...the 8mb versions come with a 3 year warranty instead of 1. That's the best reason of all to get one.

If you run a benchmark you may record a difference but in real life applications the difference is slight and unnoticable.

Agreed. I noticed no difference when moving from a regular WD to a JB model. However, moving to SCSI was a nice boost. Hee hee.

I got a WD 8MB Cache. I like it because it is very quiet. I can't hear it at all. If I put my ear up to it there is a nice deep pitched hum, unlike the typical high pitched whine of my old IBM 7200.
For some reason UT2003 runs a lot smoother on this new drive. No more stuttering and high detail. There may have been a problem with my old drive, even though the IBM diagnostic tool doesn't show anything wrong with it.

Got to get me one of these 8Mb drives. Mine is loud as heck.
