Hard Drive

I Am looking for advice. Should I get the WD 400GB drive or two 300GB drives? Anyone have the 400GB drive and like it? I am just about full with my 120Gig one...
I need some advice. I want to spend under $200 and need some space that also performs well.

the WD4000YR has gotten really good scores on the AT benchmarks, and I think a lot of people like it. It's fast for a SATA drive, but what is your question? Space requirements, or speed? It's nice to have several drives dedicated to different tasks, so that your not sharing the read/write heads for multiple tasks all the time.

The 4000KD/YR are very fast, the fastest non raptor SATA drives if memory serves. But for space you'd be best off going for 2x300gb and for speed you'd do better with data on one drive and the OS on the other.

well how fast is the 120GB you already have. If you grab the 400, you can use that for windows and installs, and use the 120 to backup important stuff, or the other way around. Or you can get 2 more, and dedicate to various storage.

thanks for your input! What I am looking for is mainly a drive to store images and run the images using alcohol..etc. I am planning on using the drive I have now the 120G WD as my OS drive. I'll most likely get the 10k raptor at some point down the road to put the OS on.
So I would guess speed is a concern as I'll be using that drive to store images, and serve movies, mp3's...etc to the home theatre.
I'll also be using the new drive for video encoding, DVD making and recording.

I use the WD4000KD as my boot drive and it's great. I used to use a Raptor, but I needed space more than speed, noise, heat, and power consumption from the Raptor.

It's a great drive. It is kept in good company with my other 2 400GB drives and my 500GB Seagate!
