Has China dishonored itself?

What did they do... Photoshop the fireworks?
Not letting a little girl sing because she's not pretty enough?

Now caught cheating?

This is really sad. China has been dominating the olympics with 20 gold medals. I can't help but wonder now if there are any other surprises waiting.

of course they have genuine passports, why wouldn't the chinese gov't issue real passports with fake birthdates? heck, my current US passport says i'm 5 years old than i am because the clerk couldn't tell the difference between a 4 and a 9.

I have a feeling this "controversy" would have never been mentioned if China got the silver and the USA got the gold.

Lets move on; the better team clearly won. Sacramone butt-flopped on her floor routine; a huge no-no.

What happened to that US chick that dominated those speed-track events at the last Olympics?

The one we found out was doping?

and was sorry she got caught?

Did you read the story? The Chinese government clearly knew what was going on.

I'm not a big sports guy. I just follow the headlines in the morning.
I'm not an ultra-patriotic-nationalist. I can root for other teams and I could have been very happy for China.
I simply believe there is something to be said for character.

Sports editors at the state-run news agency would not comment for publication.

Translation: On a box car to western china in their new capacity of digging their own ditch.

If the "better team" includes ineligible members, then it isn't the better team. I doubt we'll ever get a straight answer on their ages.

Supposedly the Chinese silver medalist from Sydney has since admitted she was only 14 at the time.

The rules are there for a reason.

While they're at it, could they investigate the syncro divers, I swear there was a male posing as a female the other night. I have DVR evidence of a power bulge, anyways...I digress.

The detractors will need some hard proof before any of these accusations stick.

So far, all the hard proof says they are 16.

In its report Nov. 3, Xinhua...gave her age as 13 and reported that she beat Yang Yilin on the uneven bars at those games. In the final, "this little girl" pulled off a difficult release move on the bars."

So the state news agency perhaps unaware of olympic age requirements made a slip and told the truth. "This littler girl" seems something you would say about a 13 year old but not so much a 16 year old.

Then of course Xinhua deleted the webpage and refused to comment on the "error".

A May 23 story in the China Daily newspaper, the official English-language paper of the Chinese government, said He was 14. The story was later corrected to list her as 16.

One mistake printing an age, possibly. But 2? The only "hard proof" of their age is their gov't issued passports. Meanwhile, He's birthday is listed as Jan 1, 1992. Convenient no? One day earlier and He wouldn't be eligible.

Did you look at LeBron James in high school? He looked like he was 30.

In this world, it's not about what is true, untrue, right or wrong. It's about what you can prove or disprove.

The "hard proof" has Chinas own news agency listing a kid as 13 not long ago.

"Just nine months before the Beijing Olympics, the Chinese government's news agency, Xinhua, reported that gymnast He Kexin was 13, which would have made her ineligible to be on the team that won a gold medal this week."

I dont compare getting 13 yr old kids to train and lie about their age as the same as an adult doping. P&N always has a jillion excuses for bad guys.

Jan 1st is classic. Like they went to a website that requires you verify your age. First data is always Jan 1st.

I think I messed that part up. Jan 1 is the given age, but to be eligible He would have to have been born at any time in 1992, meaning Dec 31, 1992 would be the latest possible birth date. One day later (Jan 1, 1993), not earlier as I said before, and He would have been ineligible. So the given date actually provides a one year cushion.

Is that right or am I now really confused?

At least one of them is certainly underage... they look like little kids, it really is absurd. Doesn't one of them weigh like 68 lbs??

I am just commenting on the generic Jan 1st birthdate lol

Taking my irrefutable news source (The Daily Show) the decision to substitute the pretty girl for the one who could sign went to the very highest levels of government-the Chinese Porlitboro. To paraphrase Jon Stewart, how would you like to be a 8 y.o. girl and have the leaders of your country tell you you aren't pretty. Very tacky, but as far as the rest of the world is concerned, so what.

As far as they gymnists go, as I understand the rule they are supposed to turn age 16 this year. No way half of those Chinese girls were over 12. This is far more serious, and is actual fraud upon the Olympics if proven.

IOC has said they will not be investigating.

The Hard Proof?

From the article:

"BEIJING -- Just nine months before the Beijing Olympics, the Chinese government's news agency, Xinhua, reported that gymnast He Kexin was 13, which would have made her ineligible to be on the team that won a gold medal this week.

A report in China's official Xinhua news agency nine months ago listed gymnast He Kexin as being 13 years old. But she told reporters Wednesday that her real age is 16.

In its report Nov. 3, Xinhua identified He as one of "10 big new stars" who made a splash at China's Cities Games. It gave her age as 13 and reported that she beat Yang Yilin on the uneven bars at those games. In the final, "this little girl" pulled off a difficult release move on the bars known as the Li Na, named for another Chinese gymnast, Xinhua said in the report, which appeared on one of its Web sites, www.hb.xinhuanet.com."

The IAC is accepting passports as a legitimate proof of age, but I wouldn't put it past the Chinese government to doctor passports...that there are several news reports and website postings prior to the Olympics that set He'e age as younger is the bone of contention...enough outliers of "media mistakes" to question the validity of her passport.

Honestly, I could care less about the medal...China's behavior throughout the Olympics is far more troubling.

If the world shouldn't be concerned, why is he "reporting" on it?
