ok everytime I started windows I would notice a mIRC client started and going away almost instantly. I didn't worry much about it, and notihng seemed to be going wrong with my comp...but none the less it bothered me. So I fianally got the idea to unplug my network connection and reboot. Sure enough, the mIRC client didn't connect. I tracked it to task32.exe anyone hear of this before? Also the client was trying to connect to irc.owned-the.us:6667 did a search on that and found nothing. If you want to see a screen shot of the client trying to connect head to here.

Yeah, if you ever have something trying to connect to an IRC server, it is safe to assume you've been hacked.

the "o" in owned is a zero. And yeah, you've been hacked!

task32.exe is just the windows task manager. There are many ways to get to start a program with it.

Here's a funny thing. I don't know how you get a DNS server to do that, but irc.0wned-the.us resolves to 127.0.0.1 (which any IP4 network card will resolve as itself, i.e. localhost). I have tried that on two computers in two different locations with different IP servers.
It really does sound like you have been hacked, but this sounds like one of the weirder things that can happen. Does anyone have access to your computer?

maybe it was a less-malicious-than-normal hack? or this is only part of it?

No one has physical access to my computer, I'm behind a firewall and I haven't been on mIRC or any kind of file sharing proggie for ages which is why I can't figure out where I got this thing from hehehe. Also, it might be just part of it, and like I'd mentioned, nothing wierd has happened with my compuer or my files/info. I don't have anything real important on here anyway, if anything wierd starts happening, I'll just reformat heh.
