I was using Partition Magic 8.0 to merge 3 partitions I had on one drive into one. The program froze in the first 10 minutes. It's a 250 GB WD HDD in an external enclosure and I am using USB. Partition Magic crashed. When I last saw it, it wasnt even doing anything, it was "Checking drive integrity". I know the data is still in my hard drive because I didnt format.

Now when I check it, it is only giving me access to 1 100GB partition I had on it. the 135 GB show as unallocated. But I know for a fact its there. PLEASE HELP!! Anybody. I am going to cry, I have so much work in it. I was actually merging the drives so I can clone it. I can not believe this is happening. Anyone please help me.

Thanks but its useless. I got a bunch of software. Nothing works!

5 years worth of software, documents, media, documents, documents and more documents! I think I am switching to type writers.

DVD media is farily cheap now, so I have everything backed up to DVD. I always worry about losing all my digital pics, so I feel for your loss.

Yeah:
300GB Maxtor = refused to answer anything but format (all important data was on another HDD as well)
200GB WD = broke it's read/write head after 3 months of use (all important data was on another HDD as well)
80 GB Maxtor = my little brother broke 6 pins in the conector for the ribbon cable and 2 pins in the M/S/CSL; still don't know how and don't care what he lost since the HDD was part of PC that I gave to him; all important data was copied before I gave it to him

I gues what IO'm trying to say is always have duplicates of vital and important data cuz you never know what will hapen.

Roght now I have that 300GB maxtor refusing to open some folders and giving me headakes cuz I have some 190GB of Video Captures I still have to edit and no HDD to back them in case the Maxtor fails. My 2ooGB WD was supposed to do that.

I had a laptop hdd go down that carried all of my wife's photos. (over 2500). that was one of my worst experiences ever. I was able to save the photos by ripping the drive out and buying an external enclosure and running an ubuntu live cd on another machine. (windows kept locking up every time i tried to connect the hdd to my box). to this day I have 10 different copies of the photos on dvd's ,cd's four different harddrives, and we also put 3/4's of them into print.

never again will i allow myself to have only one copy for any important data.

I have also since created a a central file server, that gets backed up nightly to an external harddrive.

Don't do anything else to the drive. No writing to it at all.
Your data should all still be there, just kind of inaccessible right now.
Try R-studio's demo.

And yes, I've lost data. IBM Deskstar 120GXP 60GB drive died - head crash. 85MB survived.
Current data protection:
4-drive RAID5 - 4 Seagate 200GB's and a Promise SX4000
Weekly backup to an external hard-drive with NTFS encryption. (Yes, my key is backed up, one place on-site, one place off-site.)
