Having problems installing video card...

My dad asked me to install this new video card for him and I can't seem to make it work. It is a GF2MX 64M PCI card that needs to go into a HP Pavilion 6553. The problem is that the HP has on board video.
When I put in the new card and plug the monitor into the new card, it doesn't work. Also, when I put in the new card and plug the monitor into the onboard video out, it doesn't work.
The bios for the onboard video has two options available:
Onboard support using 512k of memory or
Onboard support using 1M of memory.
It also says that an option of disabling the on board video should be available, but it isn't. (I think that it needs to recognize that it has another video card available)
Can anyone please provide me with some advice on how to get around this obstacle.

Thanks for the website but that didn't really help. (I did do all of the steps...)
The problem is, I can't find any way to disable the onboard video.
Does anyone know where to find a bios update for this board? I think that might help. Problem is, I don't know what kind of board it is. All I know is that it uses a Phoenix bios. I can't even find what kind of board it is written anywhere on it.
New Years is coming and this pos needs to be done quickly...

how 'bout in your BIOS under ADVANCED....in VIDEO CONFIGURATION....it gives ya PRIMARY VIDEO ADAPTER, default setting is AGP....change to PCI.....Give that a try.
By that way that mobo is either a Intel 810 or Intel 815, look on the chipset.

Trashman, thanks. It is an 810 but I am not sure how that helps me. I went looking for a bios update but couldn't find one for that board. I am on a different puter right now, but I am going to go give that thing another try here in about 15 min.
If anyone knows where I could bet a newer bios version for it, could you please let me know. Thanks.
