I find myself having unpopular opinions, constantly. I usually dont let it get to me cause i have aleady accepted that im a very unique person but it gets really annoying when i come accross people who see my opinion as totally wrong.

There is no right or wrong, its usually what you do or dont do and things are a matter of opinion but some people dont get that.

I dont want to get into specifics and i know this question is harder to answer because of it but what do you guys do in these situations ? Do you try to change your opinion ? Do you just stop saying it and stay neutral? or do you just continue to have your unpopular opinion and possibly be seen as being weird for it cause you dont agree with the majority.

I don't see how this relates to L&R. Moving to OT.

Hahhaha, have you tried reading some of these threads op? Its full of people who have different opinions.. some of us are really strong minded and unwilling to bend, some of us dont care what others think, some of us re evaluate what we think.

Perhaps if you gave us the specifics we would be able to help you better?

1. Always stand by your convictions, and NEVER let the fear of what other people think cause you to alter them.

2. Think about the people you respect the most. Especially ones that you may intensely dislike or even hate. Then sit back and realize that the respect you have for them is almost always based on the fact they stand behind their personal convictions. Even the ones you can't agree with under any circumstances.

O_O Yes, always deny science in the light of evidence, because it is one's personal conviction that science is full of crazy mofos...

I think changing one's beliefs can be good... Seriously, there are things people shouldn't believe like dowsing...

Anyway, OP what the hell do you believe/think/accept that is an unpopular opinion? That all Jews should die? That black people should be slaves?

EDIT: What do I do as a religion hating, evolution is fact, praise satan, atheist? I tell them straight up whatever is on my mind, typically... I try to avoid saying, "Well, I think you're a fucking moron for waiting to have sex before marriage, but alright..."

First off, don't say your entire opinion. Give one sided statements that agree with the person you're talking to. Example: suppose some girl says Twilight is a great set of books and Edward Cullen is a perfect boyfriend. Obviously she's stupid, but don't let that get to you. Rather than ranting about how that character is extremely abusive, give a more sensitive answer like "I was touched by how much he cares for Bella, but he gets carried away."

There is no right or wrong, its usually what you do or dont do and things are a matter of opinion but some people dont get that.
It's possible you're stating your opinions in a negative manner. Example: suppose someone asks for your opinion on truck balls. Rather than saying that people who buy them are all fags, you say "I find it unnecessary. I like the look of my truck even when it doesn't have testicles."

If you're trying to date artsy chicks, try to put everything in the context of some kind of class struggle. "I don't buy truck balls because I think they're sexist. It implies that anything without testicles is weak."

Someone will probably reply to this and say it's wrong to lie or whatever, but look at what telling the truth has accomplished. Nothing. If being honest actually worked, the OP would not be asking for help. Lying = the answer.

I've made this mistake before. One of my ex's friends said she was saving it for marriage because she didn't want to anger god. I pointed out how this was likely going to limit her choices to people who were batshit crazy fundamentalists who rival Osama Bin Laden (yes I actually said that). In hindsight, it would have been a lot easier to say I admired her devotion.

Maybe the OP just needs to make a cult with his interests.

Srsly though. Your suggested answers come off as the most effeminate and cowardly answers I could ever see happening. Btw, that whole that's sexist thing really doesn't work from what I've experienced. Most chicks are like, "So, are you gay?"

I want to know wtf the OP believes. There's no way he's an atheist/agnostic, believes in evolution, or anything like that because that's not weird(Even if it is unpopular in comparison to the norm). He must believe in like reincarnation and that we are all composed of pixie dust that is trying to be controlled by gremlins in some weird demi-god battle on the quantum level. That's only way I could see people giving him the wtf-look.

I don't think any are necessarily abusive(Except to themselves)... But probably Edward.

Anyway... yeah, I think he is

Truck balls, and yes you're a douche if you own these. Errr I mean "My truck doesn't need testicles to look nice "

You can be honest if you want, but you won't make any friends that way. Do you think Obama would have been elected if he truthfully stated that he no intention of fixing healthcare and that he supported arresting people who haven't broken any laws? (link).

Mmm, yet, I have made friends. My opinions tend to be rare in comparison to the majority though, but the majority is rather easily brainwashed...

Also I tend to not want to be friends with religious people anyway. >_>

You youngins just don't realize how annoying you sound when you talk. There is an art to never seeming ruffled or uncouth. There's a way to get your notions across without being a know-it-all or condescending. There is a way to be tactful. You might end up changing other people's opinions or learning something new in the process. Nobody wants to hang out with someone who's got an opinion about everything.

Sometimes, especially when it comes to women, or friends of your woman, to just keep the opinion to yourself. Not everything requires a comment or dropping your opinion. Now I am by no means saying alter your opinions or roll over and let someone walk on you, but discretion is an important thing.

I think the OP isn't talking about like, "So what's everyone's opinion on abortion?" It's more like, "So what do YOU believe?" That's what I got out of it anyway... Sounded more personal than just aimed at a group...

I'm not gonna be a chicken and say, "Uh well, uh... Abortion ain't kewl mkay... God ftw.'

The bigger challenge is learning not to yell at people when they say incredibly stupid things. I was talking to this one douche who said Obama was the best president ever.... after 1 month in office. About 30 minutes later he said life on earth would not exist if earth were just a few meters closer to the sun. You're a real pro when you can resist the urge to yell at these people.

Keeping in mind that most people have a level of education below maybe grade 6 if you round up, this is easier said than done. I was at a family gathering one time and several of my relatives were discussing the possibility of cell phones causing brain cancer due to the radio waves. Being the unpopular person that I am, I explained why this was unlikely, what planck energy is, how the photoelectric effect works, and various other things from grade 10 science. The conversation totally died and most of my relatives can't relate to me because I'm the one person who actually reads books, watches TV, or went to school. Honestly, what is the alternative here? Just roll with the conversation? Knowingly say incorrect opinions and spread more fear? I don't even know.

Maybe Grade 10 where you went. Never taught where I went.
