you should really look at watts per frame, not watt per time. Thus it should be adjusted for the achiveable fps.

You've reviewed the 3870?

they're both probably going to cheat on crysis, at least as much as they can get away with it.

And did they get away with it?

Hmm, no need for aftermarket cooling or a new power supply to run two of these.
The P35 boards that have two PCI slots, crossfire, is this a viable option??? I have an Abit P35 Pro.

Now this may be interesting. I got $600 burning a hole in my pocket..

You could probably get 2 of the new 8800gts's that are coming out in November for that.

I got this info from friend who already has 3870 for review but its not official...
NDA will be lifted 15 November and cards will be released 19 or 20 November with +- 200 000 cards available during release.
So ati says it is supposed to cost 200$?
Well according to nvidia the GT was supposed to be 200$... less for the 256MB version...
Someone posted a link that allows preordering this for 260$ for the 512MB version and 210$ for the 256MB version...
260$ for 512MB is the same as a GT costs right now, and this is outperformed by 10% by a GT...
Eventually both this and the GT are supposed to be 200$, so what really determines the final price is the merchant mark up. Which is gonna be matched by the performance and how much people will pay.

Since we're talking about Crossfire on P35 boards, I have a question. I've been unable to see how much the 4x PCIe slot impacts Crossfire performance with the newer optimized drivers. Does anyone have a handy link to some benchmarks? The initial benchmarks I saw had serious issues with the P35 in CF.

I wonder if the ip35 pro is set up like the asus or the msi mobo in that comparison, thilan29? the asus appears to do much better in xfire.

i really want to see more real game benchmarks from other sites....my 8800gt ($250) order hasnt come in but...if there is hard evidence the x3870 is better..i might cancel it. I'm not considered about price because I believe for a while it will not be more than a $20 difference than a 8800GT. I want to see a lot of performance tests!

132w for 3870, something like 104 I think for 3850.Originally posted by: KevinH
Any word on the power requirements to these?
@rusin: that palit brand might be interesting if 3870 disappoints.

According to this HD3870's TDP is 105W and 3850's 95W.. There's that 10W difference.
There are also Sparkle's passive solution coming. It would be intresting to know how well will that cooler work? It's heat sink is actually behind that card (there is smaller plate in front and then heatpipes go to that massive heat sink.. looks like Thermalright HR-03's little brother which have that metal plate added. It would surely be nice design if you could add fan there if you want to.

Then there is this Gainward-brand passive cooler:
