HD Lifespan

I work at a computer store that sells both dells and custom builds. Since I have worked there, I have seen nearly 10 times as many Western Digital, Maxtor, and Seagate HDs fail than Dells hds, the only two reasons I have been able to come up with is either their power supplies are stable and don't have any power spikes and kill out the drives faster, or that their "tooless" case designs don't mount the HD to the case as firmly, allowing it more vibration absorption.... any ideas on how to increase the lifespan, or decrease the probability of a HD failing I should say?

High temps can kill drives as well. Doesn't Dell use Maxtor drives, or do they use someone else?

I think typically Maxtor, and there isn't really anything outside of the ordinary with the drives that are dying, as far as I can tell they are running at normal temps....

How do the drives get to you? If they are being used as footballs by the shipping staff that'll hurt them, while drives in a computer are slightly too big to be used in the same way.
