ok so i have an xbox360 and i dont really plan on getting a blu ray player for a while now. What i want to do is burn HD content on either DVD+R or DVD+R DL media. lets say the HD file is in mkv format. is this possible? if the movie is 4.3GB in .mkv format how much will it take up on a dvd? I know when you convert Divx to dvd the file goes from like 1gb to 4gb.

any info on this will help me out alot.

thanks!

Dude, if all you know is to torrent the movies, watch them on your computer. This is akin to pirating MS software and then calling them for tech support.

Seriously. You don't lead off by saying "all this stuff is pirated, now help me use it". You know a really easy way to stream HD to your 360?
1. XBL Video Marketplace
2. Netflix HD (in November)

just build yourself a computer for the TV (assuming you have an HDTV). Fire up Media Player Classic - Home Cinema, and you're good to go. I would recommend an AMD video card that comes with an HDMI adapter though. .mkv all day long.

How can you run HD on the Xbox 360 anyhow? Is it not just 480p? (track me here, I'm a bit new to how and what exactly HD is). It also doesn't have video upconversion.

I will be purchasing a 360, but really do not wish to purchase a separate DVD player; but maybe so?

Thanks to anyone who had any relevant posts. The question basically is how can i burn HD-DVD's. I know you can even put HD content on a span of CD-R's if you wanted to so what exactly is a HD-DVD? is it just a dual layer DVD with 720p content on it?

This could have had to do with even taking my home movies that i recorded on my HD camcorder and putting them on HD-DVD's.

thank you two for your informative posts. Im going to go give microsoft a call and ask them why my pirated version on windows cant update now. thank you SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HD-DVDs use a very specific format, requiring a blue laser. The 360 can read plain old dual-layer DVDs with supported files on them. Your best option for MKV material to change the container format to MPEG-4 and then transcode the audio to AAC or MP3. (The 360 can also read plain-old MPEG2 files off DVDs - handy to know!)

HD camcorders don't record using MKV. Don't pretend we're idiots. You were going to use it for MKV rips of movies and/or TV.

lol, you didn't know 360 is capable of 1080p? an HD-DVD addon was made for it to playback hd-dvd movies. A BRD add-on is in the works.

1. If you have home movies in mkv format, you would not be asking this question.
2. Asking for help on piracy in here is not tolerated. You might get the banstick.
3. HD-DVD is dead. There was no consumer level HD-DVD Burner.
4. Although HD-DVD is dead, do not confuse it with RSDL DVD.

It is possible to make HD DVD video on a DVD5/9. Check AVS forums on it, there is a very long thread. I do it with recorded TV shows quite often. You can get about 42 minutes on a 4.7GB DVD-R or about double that on a dual layer.

Works great and I have HD archive of the Big Bang Theory, which was only released (season 1) in SD DVD

Of course, you will need the HD DVD add-on to play them back on the 360.

Addon? That seems silly. Just searched it today, maybe I would prefer spending a few more $ on a DVD player?

What? The 360 can play DVD's, it cannot play Blu Ray.

He is saying there will be an addon coming out that will let it play BR.
