It would be cool if the new cards came with a DX11 game like DiRT 2 as a promotion.

Dirt 2 clip there divided into 3 parts, watched it earlier, looks crazy good imo, love the shadows and reflections
Actually I think games are already reaching a point where they look better than real life lol which is exciting
And by "better" I mean in the same way a good photography does, it manages to capture light in a way we cant see with our own eyes, and its amazing to look at

However, we did learn at that AMD has a card with performance better than Radeon HD 4850 but consuming less than 75W. We would expect this to be a flavor of Redwood, RV830. Evidently, AMD has mastered the 40nm process and managed to reduce power consumption while maintaining good performance.

There had better be a heat spreader on that core. Judging from the thermal compound imprint, that is one big die. For ATI that is.

So this card is longer than the current 48XX series cards right?

Unfortunately, Nvidia has too big of a name so that wont happen, not suddenly like this, even if R870 destroyed the GT300, Nvidia would probably still sell more based on name alone
Kinda like Intel vs AMD
What's the PPD difference between 4890 and 285 these days?Originally posted by: faxon

nah, nvidia would sell more cause a lot of the people who do F@H end up spending thousands on NV cards for their CUDA based folding rigs due to the PPD they can crank out. if i had a 6 figure income and i was living on my own, i would probably have about 20 computers up and running at any one time, all of which would have the highest PPD generating NV card configuration i could cram on a motherboard. the profits nvidia makes off people who do that are probably considerable. i would still put an ATI card in my main gaming rig if it would net me more gaming performance, but every time i upgraded my folding farm, nvidia would make thousands, at least until ATI comes up with a similarly performing GPGPU solution that has a F@H client capable of outputting the same PPD

The difference is like two fold. It's not because of a lack of gpgpu performance though, it's because of a lack of proper support for ATI's current architecture in the folding client.

Imagine if ATI's intention is to cause financial problems to NV, (i doubt that this intention (if true) will overpower the cash need! (so big profits per die size)
if it would, It could design a (5870) 32ROPs DX11 4870 (less or around at 370mm2 ) at 300$!
Even the DX11 5850 at 200$ would be faster than DX10 GT285! (470mm2)
150$ DX10 GT285 (470mm2) anyone?
Also add the rumours about the possible delay of GT300 (Q1 2010 launch?)
Imagine this strategy for the whole product line!
Imagine the bad stock opportunities for NV, the cash flow problems, the finacial results (add Q3-Q4 chipset market results), the stock market problems!
I wonder what ATI's strategy is for the future!

to pay back the bill they owe; they are deeply in debt
the speculation grows and we still don't really know anything about it yet
- or did i miss something concrete in this thread?
