HDD Crash, HELP!!!

i have a Seagate 20 GB HDD which i think has crashed. the hdd seems to spin as the system is started, but the system doesnt boot up. the message that pops up on the screen is something like "Waiting for IDE Detection".

So the question is: Has my HDD really crashed, if YES, how can i recover my data?

I tried to boot the hdd as a slave on my other system but it wont work either.

sounds like it's dead... try to take it out, let it rest for a few hours and then install it in another computer to see if it does the same thing. Sometimes it could be a bad cable or it could be the HD itself that is messed up. Since you say the bios won't detect it I'm assuming that the drive might have died. If that is the case your only recourse is to either pay a DATA retrieval center to extract the data (Expensive) or you can try the Freezer trick.

Freezer trick: Put the HD in a Static free bag and put the bag and HD in a Ziplock type bag. leave the HD in the Freezer for a few hours or overnight. After time has passed take it out and immediately install it in the computer and boot it up and see if the computer detects it. If it does MOVE Everything you you need ***QUICKLY*** out of that drive and into another.
