The samsung says it is HDTV READY, does that mean it will play HDTV with just a tv tuner card or graphics card with a tv tuner built in?
Or do I need to purchase one of these HDTV cards seperate?
Becuase when you refere to HDTV as the TV's , HDTV READY means plug in & watch broadcasted HD.
& HDTV capable means buy a tuner/receiver.

Meaty, I haven't played UT in a long time. I wish I had more time to game. In your first post in this thread, the Samsung link is broken. I've got a Panasonic HDTV and a Dish Network DTV tuner and an antenna on the roof. Pretty touchy stuff to get working. I get most of my locals now, and HBO in HD. You need a good UHF antenna for locals and you need to know where to mount and point it.

How are you expecting to receive HDTV signals ?
If your source is not HD no amount of hardware will make it so .
"HDTV Ready" means that the screen is capable but it needs an HD tuner to correctly issue the HD signal.

There are plenty of tv programs broadcasted in HD in my area, Im not worried about that.

The thing is that HDTV READY TV's mean they have a built in HD tuner & need nothing but the broadcast to watch HD.

By $amsung saying the monitor is HDTV ready , do they mean it has a HD tuner in it?
Because if it didnt it should be marketed as HDTV capable.

If it does not say HD Tuner in bold letters its a good bet you dont get one

Last time I checked a HD Tuner cost around $400

I think you better read the specs again.

It doesn't have a built in HDTV tuner! You can view HDTV on any pc monitor ( they are capable unlike regular TV'S, ) you would get the clarity but not the widescreen view, that's where the widescreen TV's and widescreen monitors come into play.

A regular T.V is 4.3 ratio (not widescreen) and it's not capable of doing 1080i which is real HDTV.

Even if that lcd had a built in tuner why would you buy it? You want a wide screen 16.9 to view the entire picture. That lcd is only 4.3 like a regular TV.

I have a "hi-pix " card in my pc which decodes the OTA hdtv ( in NYC, only get channel 2 and 5 now due to sept 11, other stations were on the WTC) signals and watch on my PC or send signal to my MITS65908 widescreen HDTV.

HDTV signals travel over the UHF band, regular travels over the VHF band. You will see the same program ,but the UHF is the HDTV signal.

BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING CHECK OUT THE LINK BELOW.

Goodluck

clarification....

HDTV Ready or HDTV Monitor or HDTV capable all mean the same thing. The TV is capable doing 1080i WITH THE PROPER EQUIPMENT. You MUST connect some type of receiver/decoder.

HDTV means it has a built in decoder inside the unit...no additional equipment needed.

actually i doubt that is truely HD

that thing can only do 1024 horizontal lines, and hd is 1080 horizontal lines. not to mention the screen is 4:3 and hd is 16:9, so you will have a few inches to the top and bottom of that lcd as wasted space.

meaty,

Isn't it a lot easier to just E-mail the manufacturer (customer service/info/tech support) and ask them directly? I'm sure they are more familiar with their products than we are =) I'm sure you don't want to buy the wrong card?..
