Can anyone recommend a pair of high quality headphones aside from the Bose Noise Canceling 2? Price limit is $350.

Thanks in advance.

What's your preference? portable or home, open or closed, in/on/around ear, Rock/Jazz/Classical etc. etc.?

As they say, "Different strokes for different folks".

I have These but they have been discontinued. These headphones are the best I've ever had. I broke them tho by stepping on them so I bought the Sony MDR-V7000DJ headphones. The sonys sound great but the Denons sounded better. I also still have the original sony MDR-V6 headphones, bought them over 14 years ago and they still kick butt. I have the Bose tri-ports and they sound great but I only use em for my ipod. They are not audiophile enough for me to use on my stereo system and im afraid my system may blow em cuz I listen to music real loud!

If you're not running an amp and your source isn't up to task, the audio techica A900 would fit the bill perfectly. Get me' at audiocubes.com. Shoot for 350 you could get the sennheiser 650s which are some of the best in the world but...you have to have very good (and expensive) equipment to even take advantage of them.

Bose headphones are crap for the money...

I bought the Audio Technica A900 from audiocubes.com for about $200. EXTREMELY comfortable, they are not for portable use though. They have a very even sound overall, nice highs and bass. Check out some reviews on headfi.org, alot of people have been satisfied with them.

I'd prefer the ear cup headphone style. I don't plan to do much motion oriented activity with them (The most would be a 15 minute walk) . Noise canceling would be a +.

Thanks

It depends how obtrusive it is. Most of the time i'd use these headphones is while sitting down work.

I should note these headphones would be connected to my iPod or as my computer speakers.

What a coincidence.I have those Denon 750's and I swear by them.Very comfortable during long gaming periods, sound terrific, look good and they weren't as expensive as comparable Sennheisers.
I compared to Sennheiser,Grado and a plethora of other brands in many stores and the many I've owned prior, but these are/were the best bang for the buck by a long shot.Actually I was kinda disappointed by Sennheiser believe it or not.For regular music listening on my home stero I have the Sony 7000's.they're ok,but not good for gaming.
I wish Denon had not discontinued their AHD series. They were simply the best.Hope mine last for a long time longer than the 3 years I've owned them.

I just bought these off ebay 3 weeks ago they were used but in mint condition. I picked them up for $130 after shipping. Very happy with them and they had great reviews.

These MS2s fall within your price range, yet do not require an amp to sound great. They are merely tweaked Grado SR225s. Or, if you need a larger soundstage, the Sennheiser HD595s are supposed to be excellent.

Can someone explain this whole "amp bussiness?" Also, if anyone had used these headphones tell me what you think of them!

Thanks

The sennheiser has mixed reviews. The MS2 also. But I really like the MS2's. Nice punch, and tonally very good. But they're very open, and will shut out no outside noise.

The ATH-A1000 isn't worth the money over the ATH-A900. $160 more. For not much return.

An amp is something that amplifies the signal to drive the headphones in a better way. The general results is cleaner sound with no distorition, more bass or treble extension, or just a generally 'Cleaner' and 'Better' sound. Some headphones need it more than others, and it also depends on which source you'll be using it on. Are you using these headphones from a soundcard, or just from a CD player?

Also, for headphone advice, I would seriously suggest you go to www.head-fi.org

They're one of the best Audio-centric communities on the internet.

Koss, has a life time warranty, my Pro4AA's were the top of the line over 10 years ago and by abuse they went down twice and were repaired/replaced with no hassle so go to there site and see what there is nowadays

Senn HD-580's.

I bought em at Amazon for about $150 new (they're around $190 now). They're simply amazing for the price range. They sound even better amped (so I doubt your ipod would push these hard).

I use a stereo to RCA adapter to plug my speakerout port from my PC to a bookshelf stereo system I have to quasi amp these.

Listening to Sasha - Involver in utter bliss as we speak.

Very very very highly recommended if you're not looking for something portable.

Super comfy, I wear em for 4-5 hours when I'm working/studying and never tire.
