Please recommend 2 pairs--one that is under $200 and one with no price limit (if one pair fits both categories then that is fine).

I don't really know what is good in regards to headphones but I'm looking to get a nice pair and stick with it for a while. It will be all for mainly music and maybe movies (no gaming). I like comfort and a lot of bass without sacrificing clarity (who doesnt right?). I don't really know if I'd prefer open or closed but either is fine. I will use them in both quiet (don't have to worry about sound from headphones annoying ppl though) and noisy environments.

One last thing, is there any difference between the Senn HD280 PRO and the HD280 SILVER besides color and price?

Thanks a lot for the help.

EDIT: Analog connector please.

No difference between the black & silver flavors of hd280. Nice phones btw, I own a pair. Is portability a priority for you?

If you mean portability as in ones that can be taken on trips vs those that need a base station (the wireless ones) then yes I care but if you mean just compact and not a hassle to take on trips then nope, it is not...at least not high priority. I will be using these as I commute via public trans (as well as at home) but I don't care if it's big and bulky. A long cord may be a problem though but if it's a good pair of headphones that can be overlooked.

You might want to consider 2 pair; a travel pair (small size, good sound isolation so others don't hear your music and you aren't overly bothered by outside noise) and a home pair. My reasoning is that most high end headphones are open (no isolation), big and require an amp to make the most of them. For specifics you should check out head-fi.org, and if at all possible audition before you buy.

If youre a bass head, id go with with the AKG 410's or maybe even the AKG 249, amped. Another option would be the all around Grado 60's or 80's.

Check out Headfi.org. Lots of good stuff.

if you want a pair of headphones with quality sound and a crystal clear microphone attached for a very affordable price, then you should go with plantronics gamecom 1. They sell it $29.99 retail. This is of course a gamer's headset but has the best sound I have heard for a good price.

For those tastes the HD580/600/650 are often recommended. (Not to my taste as it happens.)
For use in noisy environments you need phones that go in your ears - Etymotic and Shure make such phones.

Check out the Audio Technicas at audiocube.com, I think the model was A1000 which were $200 even or the A500 for $100. The most balanced pair of headsets Ive heard, nice treble and bass, midrange is lacking just a tad but still very good.
