I was wondering if anybody knew a website/article or even their own arguments taht show why the United States should NOT have universal health care. Whether it is a financial reason or just simply unrealistic. I just need more in depth information on this topic, and am trying to prove how we should NOT have universal health care. Thanks

My main argument: Because "Free" health care is not "Free". It will require massive tax increases that will be a drain on the economy.

Are you willing to go through 4 years of undergrad + 8 years of medical school and residency and then treat people without charging them a fee for your services?

Why can't we all just put all our money into one big pot and then divide it up equally?

Anybody have a link to explain why this is a bad idea? I already tried google.

a) medical care is more appropos of a term. health refers to more overall wellbeing, but the doctor can't watch you every day to make sure you're eating right and exercising for 30 minutes.

b) there is no such thing as free. someone has to pay for it.

c) government run healthcare systems are still rationing. though they're not rationing on price they ration on wait periods, availability of procedures, etc.

Free health care, like in Canada, doesn't mean that the doctors aren't paid, just that all working citizens pay for the services. From a doctor's perspective, they will get paid regardless, I would just wonder how much less due to government health contracts.

docs still get paid, from the govt instead of you. which is stupid, because you pay the government. in reality, via you just end up paying more for the same service, and probably even for other peoples health problems too.

Because apparently my company and me paying a combined $1000 a month in inflated premiums to cover uninsured who flock to emergency rooms is much more efficient than anything the government could do. Oh, and if you question the status quo, you're probably a communist and hate America.

Nobody is saying the current system is perfect. However, the alternative of "Free" Healthcare is worse in many opinions. See Tennessee for an example. They had their own version of "Free" Healthcare called Tenncare. It quickly ended up accounting for over 50% of the states budget even with federal medicare subsidies.

not just inflated premiums but inflated hospital costs as well. there is a reason an aspirin costs $10 at a hospital.

not to mention all the paperwork costs. a move to a single payer system would say some several hundred billion dollars. that alone could provide everyone in this country with several thousand dollars in medical care, which, considering that the average person only gets like $4000 in medical care each year, might pay for the whole system.

Thanks for everybody who responded. But I wanted to kind of change the subject a little. What exactly is flawed in the British system and for that fact most European countries. What are some of the setbacks that they are experiencing
