Heatsink and Case Fans

I am looking for a new heatsink since I want my computer to be quieter. Right now I have a GlobalWin CAK38 which is rated 46.5dba. I am looking for a new heatsink with a much quieter fan but can be used on an Athlon XP 1800+ and possibly the new Thoroughbreds. I also am looking for quieter case fans. I have 3 80mm fans and one 60mm fans. The quietest fans I can find are the Vantec 80mm (21.0 dba) and 60mm (20.0 dba) Stealth Fans. Are there any quieter than that? And what is a good and quiet heatsink? Thanks.

I am currently using a cheap cooler master (OEM) sink for my 1800+ and a 60mm -80mm apdater from newegg and a 80mm fan wth a speed control. Never goes over 51C, and its silent.

Try getting the Thermalright AX-7 or Swiftech MCX462 (heatsink only) and add either a stealth 80mm or a panaflow 80mm. I've heard those two heatsinks are probably the best, so combine them with the 2 quietest fans and you have the best of both worlds.

So I think I will get the Vantec Stealth for case fans (2 80mm and 1 60mm) and a Thermalrigth AX-7 with a Thermaltake 80mm Smart Fan. The Vantec Stealth fans are rated at 21dba and 20dba. The Thermaltake Smart Fan is rated at 27dba at lowest speed and 39dba at the highest. So do you think those fans will lower the loudness of my computer?

ThermalRight AX7 coupled with a good 80mm fan. I happen to use a Sunon 2900rpm/50cfm that's reasonably quiet.... MUCH more quiet than my old SK6/Black Delta 7K rpm screamer. There may be even more quiet ones. Regarding cooling ability, my TBird 1.2/200fsb OC'd to 1.4/266fsb @ 1.87 vcore puts out about 81 watts of heat at 100% cpu output.

At 100% cpu output, the AX7/Sunon keeps my cpu at 19°C over mobo temp (i.e., at mobo temp of 28°C, my cpu is at 47°C). Your XP1800+ only puts out about 66 watts at 100% cpu output, so you will run significantly cooler than I do.

You might also want to consider your power supply fan. I swapped out all the case fans in one of mine to Panaflo's L1As(They do not have RPM monitoring) and still there was a loud whirr. When I turned all the case fans off (except for the heatsink fan -- which I swapped out to eliminate this as a source of the noise), I found that my power supply fan was the culprit.

I got an Enermax Thermal Controlled Fan instead for the Thermalright AX-7 heatsink. It has a thermal probe to detect the tempature. Where is the best place for the thermal probe for the CPU?

I have an AX-7 w/ Panaflo HA1 on my 1.4Ghz T'Bird @1.60Ghz in a Black Chieftec (SX1030B clone) case w/ 4 Enermax auto-temp-adjusting fans... 45c full load and the loudest part is the Enermax PSU fans (gotta' swap 'em for some Panaflo's for $5 each )

Or, you could wait until June and get a Thermalright SLK-800. Here's a link to the SLK-600 (The 600 has a 60mm fan, but the soon-to-be-released 800 has a 80mm fan). It's a SK-6 on steroids!
