Heatsink/Fan glued in =/

I need to replace my heatsink/fan on my cpu but it is pysically glued to the board. There are two metal bar type things about a centimeter in width that come up the sides and keep the heatsink/fan glued in place. I really need to replace this for the fan has died but i have no idea to get this thing off. Any ideas?

I have a similar problem with my video card, the sleeve bearing fan is rattling and very much on its last legs, but the heatsink is glued to the chip itself, anyone know how i can pry this little sucker off?

As for taking the heatisnk/fan off, is it not impossible to unscrew the fan from the assembly and replace it with another fan?

Else you could possibly get yourself a real fat fan and position it "card cooler" style over the top of it?

lol freeze it. put it in the freezer for about 30 mins. then it will come off much easier.

mMost people freeze the cards and the twist the hsf delicately to crack the glue.

YES, I froze my Vid card. You don't even have to put it in the frezzer for 30 min. Take the MB and put it in an antistatic bag, tape it closed very GOOD. then you put it in the frezzer after about 10 min ,depending on your frezzer temp, take out the MB and set it on something flat. Place a credit card type object between the heatsink and the board and slide a flat screw driver in between the heatsink and CC then give it a good smooth 90 degree turn.
