Heatsink, fan or no fan?

I was looking into getting one of these heatsinks for my new setup.

It does not include a fan, so I was wondering, should I buy a fan to go with it? Is it necessary?

My new setup is a 2500+ and I plan to overclock it to 3200+...

EDIT: Which fan should I use?

Yes you do need a fan,DO NOT run without a fan.

unless you want to buy a new cpu when you order a fan....

Depends if you mind loud or not. If noise is not an issue go with Vantec Tornado or a Delta. For a fiarly quiet fan go for a coolermaster rifle bearing fan

i would get a hsf. that unit will keep your chip a little warm even with a good fan for overclocking you will need a better hsf the thermaltake or zalman lines work fine in an oc environment.

That's actually quite a good heatsink...performs almost as well if not better than its copper counterpart, according to the reviews I've seen.

Worth a Look

Who needs a fan when the whole case is a big heatsink.

In case anybody wants to buy one it's a zalman case.

Would suck to buy that sucker and have BTX be the standard in six months.

Fortunately you don't have to worry about BTX if you're using an AMD.

looks interesting, (this one)

Am I right in assuming it supports any 80mm fan?

EDIT: Yeah, it supports all types of sizes, but I have another problem. It says for AMD users that you need 4 mounting holes on your mobo in order for this to install correctly. (http://www.cluboverclocker.com/reviews/heatsinks/thermalright/slk-947u/p2.htm)

Wondering does a Asus A7N8X have these 4 mounting holes???

EDIT 2: Seems like I answer my own question once again, the Asus A7N8X does indeed have these 4 mounting holes

This ASUS A7N8X nForce2 motherboard also has four holes around the AMD socket for those heatsinks that do not use the conventional mounting.

(found it here)

Well, thanks for everyones help, I guess I am going to go with this SLK-947U (thanks for suggesting this DaNorthface!) and I will use a 80mm fan.

Again, thanks all!
