Heatsink mounting screws touching case

Do you think it will be a problem if my mounting screws touch the case plate underneath the motherboard?

I'm not sure, but to be safe I would put some electrical tape on the case where the screws will touch.

If they're metal, I'd say yes (use Cutthroat's idea), but if they're plastic (like socket 775 clips), no problem...

Yep, bad news if its metal on metal, it could ground out the cpu/mobo which means it wont start.

I decided to just not tighten the screws so much... which is a good thing since my PC would not POST at first... pulled off the Heat sink and it had crushed a pin on the motherboard where the CPU rests... I had to straighten it with a very small screwdriver. Obviously things are fine now, since I'm posting from that machine. Yay.

My guess though is that mounting screws for the hsf would be electrically isolated anyway, so contact with the case would not present an electrical problem. However, if long enough, they could deform the mb, so adding tape or some such could increase the physical stress.

Agreed...these screws are not part of the circuitry, but the deformation aspect would trouble me.
