I thought Tabula Rasa was a piece of shit.

HGL wasn't much better. Sure, it had all the fancy effects, but the character models sucked, the world was static and boring to look at. Unlimited ammo just means you hold down the mouse button and run away from mobs. The huge number of game-breaking bugs in the final stages of beta. No bullet holes, annoying quest system, horrid dialog, lack of commands (unstuck would be nice wtf?).

I won't be picking it up until it's in the bargain bin. There's just no fun in holding down the mouse button and running.

I absolutely loved Diablo / D2, but this game is shit. Nothing like D2, other than the item drops and rare monsters and 'Wart's leg (I guess that name is copyrighted)

That and the user community was just full of absolute fucktards. I mean piss mouthed shitheaded kids with nothing better to do than flame all day. The forums were rampant with it.

The userbase of HGL were the first people I've met online that I actually wanted to drag out back and beat to death with a stick. It was that bad

edit: and the SP of the game holds no interest for me. I'd be playing it online, which brings in the whole shitheadedly fucked subscription plan. Three character slots + half the inventory space + shitty drops + fewer areas? Uh, that's not good for me. I remember having several mules in D2 simply to hold stuff, but with this there's no way to do that unless I pay them every month. They failed with this game. Huge premise, no follow through.

edit: sorry for the profanity laden post. It's just one of those days at work.

Point to note /unstuck is in the full game.

I am suffering a lot of crashes, unknown reason. Game locks and automatically slips free my windows mouse pointer. I have ruled out overclocking (not overclocking), heat (appears at different heat levels) and drivers (tried the latest forceware and Beta drivers.

Crashes are annoying but the game is just unbeatable.

Good to hear they put in an /unstuck command. Another thing that really bothered me was that I could never quit the game. It would always result in a hard freeze that required a restart. Only game that did it

This game is *so different* each time, this is the first time i enjoyed playing the same quest over [3 times].

1) they actually vary the order of the quests so it logical for your characters progression. And each time you go thru you meet a different "set" of monsters although you have the same boss. Underground levels change.
:Q

2) don't F-up the skills ... there are no "do overs" like weapons mods
[that said i deleted my Engineer's best weapon - one of the bots becomes your best weapon or weapons pair ]

3)If you are a marksman or engineer it stands to reason your Firepower is the *thing* ... as an engineer, my drones and my armor protects me ... he is physically just strong enough to carry his armor and weapons ...
--BUT you have weapons so you need a LOT of "accuracy" [imo]. For Blademaster/Guardian you want the toughest SoB with minimal accuracy and lots of health reserve.

i really like this game ... is is SO unlike Oblivion/Gothic3/2Worlds where although you "specialize" you can always cross-skill ... not so here ... you really need to plan your Char out to have an easy time

I played last night for a few hours and there were a tonne of people in the stations and the chat was very lively as well. It felt the same as beta.

I checked in again briefly this morning and there were still a tonne of people on, though the chat was very quiet. Guess people were hungover or something.

LoL - Sounds like the BNET crowd of old to me.

P.S. This game is no not a MMO folks. Jeez I can't some people were buying into the hype that it would somehow blurr the line between MMO and CORPG. This is GW, D2. Titan Quest's rolled up into a new package. Now out of those three GW and TQ have shown a certain amount of evolution in the genre of hack and slash games. Oh and you can't even reset instances or redo your skill points in HGL for god's sakes ! No god damn way in hell am I going to reroll a the same character class just to try out a slightly different build. These guys have got to be fucking stupid to expect someone to pay monthly for a game that has no respec ability.

Sorry but more character slots will not solve the problem IMHO. This is 2007 and games like Guild Wars and Titan Quest all allow for respecs so you can fully explore your character class. Why would anyone with sane mind ever reroll the same class just to try out a new spec? Yet this game seems to be stuck in 90's with it's gameplay mechanics and bugs.

P.S. From reading the forums you can't even farm bosses like you could in D2, TQ, and GW. WTF is up with that ? So let me some up a list of things that I would like to be fixed in this game before I even think about subbing.

1.) Fix the glaring bugs and memory leak in this game.

2.) Add a respec ability with a price and cool down timer.

3.) Allow players to farm bosses without the diminishing returns BS.

4.) Ability to reset a instance without having to exit out of the game !

5.) Fix the monster scaling with groups. Right now if two people group up they will end up getting 1 or 2 shotted by mobs because group scaling is way off.

6.) Add in the ability to split items in the game !!

7.) Include the AH feature that was promised.

8.) Shared bank slots - Put them in ASAP. GW and TQ had them.

9.) More character slots would be nice too.

10.) Fix your broken subscription servers. What a freaking sad example of not having your act together. The subscriptions servers have been broken and shut down since this game launched !

Yeah sorry I am not a passive individual who accepts turds and then asks for seconds. With an attitude like yours pc game makers would get away with shipping literally pure crap in a box at the full price of functional, polished real game.

Expecting a game to actually have standard features inherent to most well polished online games that do not launch in a unfinished state is not bitching. From what I've had access to since the subscription server been laughingly off line since launch it's not worth sub monthly for at all. So go ahead and spread your checks if you like because this game is in a sorry state with all the random server restarts and other issues I listed.

While you guys are bitching about *perceived* problems, i am having a *blast* in SP mode [online] ... it an exceptionally addicting game and i have *already* spent fifty enjoyable hours ... in SP !! :Q
--and - best of all - since the subscription servers are broke we get to 'taste' what the subscription guys get
--you *can* get more than 3 classes with your sub; i seriously doubt i am going to subscribe unless they offer something exceptional - so, i just delete builds i don't like - why waste time with them?

As to *game issues* it is a HELL of a lot more polished then the GARBAGE that Atari rushes out the door: e.g. NWN2/MotB/The Witcher

So go ahead and spread your checks if you like because this game is in a sorry state with all the random server restarts and other issues I listed.

who cares what you expected?
:Q

Screw MMO

this game is the MOST FUN - the MOST addicting - and the best game out of a Dozen AA titles - i have played so far this year - in 11 months!!

too bad for you the Single Player is awesome and you just want to focus on MMO bullshit ... the SP by itself is worth $40
--well, keep your "attitude" and *don't play it*

Me too ... absolutely *agreed* - except i haven't touched the MP ... i am playing the SP quest online so i can try highest level party quests later
-and especially PvP.

... i just spent another 25 hours leveling my Engineer to Level 20 at 4AM - End of Act 3 .. 2 more Acts to go - i woke up at 7AM and started back up
:Q
... then i will try a Summoner - it actually almost becomes a different game ... in one you must sneak .... in another you go toe-to-toe with the demon mobs; and the Story actually ADAPTS to your choices. My Engineer has a "party" of some bots ... one of which is my biggest and baddest gun that i also level up and customize

Unless you are stuck on subscribing to a MMO ... which is what flaws the reviews focused on ... SP is polished ... a truly wonderful game!
it just may be my nomination for GotY of '07 ... and it has been an great year for PC gamers!

see you next time it crashes

While I'm liking it more than I did previously, there's no way this game can be called GotY. I don't even know how its getting such good reviews. its pretty mediocre compared to other games.

GoTY from me but I am not a heavy gamer. I used to play a load of Diablo 2 and this just has the same feel except its a bit more buggy and it requires more skill.

If this game was unbuggy, theres no doubt it would be GoTY. Its a little slow at the start... like Diablo2 was but once you get into it, you are flying.

Level 20 Engineer and I am loving it totally

from the Underground HGL website

http://www.hellgatelondon.com/underground
After the game had been running for a while, we found that we were having issues with out subscription transactions not being correctly processed. While this wasn?t an issue of incorrect charges being applied or insecure data issues, we needed to suspend subscriptions while we worked with our payment processing partners to address the problems. We?re working on this through the weekend and will take as long as required to iron out the last issues. We will update everyone as soon as we have more concrete information.

Turning of the ability to subscribe meant that we had some cool All Hallows? Eve content that a lot of people weren?t going to be able to see. So, we decided to ?turn on? the goodies for everyone who was playing. Unfortunately, this meant we would need to shut down the game servers in order to issue a new patch. Although we announced the down-time on our forums and within the game, not everyone got the message, so some people were surprised when they couldn?t get online for a few hours.

This, in turn, led everyone that was playing to rush to the Hellgate: London forums, which promptly overloaded both our forum and website servers. The treat was that we really saw that there are a LOT of passionate people playing the game. The trick was that the rush to our sites caused our little corner of the Internet to shut down.

It?s not that we don?t already have a good amount, but we immediately put out the order for more web servers. We?ve also implemented a website overflow plan in case we get that many people flooding onto the boards in such a short amount of time again. Live and learn!

We brought the servers and our sites back online a few hours later, patched everyone with all of the special themed content, and we?ve been up and running ever since. Some of our Beta testers have progressed through the end of the storyline and are continuing on in Nightmare difficulty. We can?t wait to see them tackle Elite Mode.

All in all, we?re pleased that the game itself is running so well. We?re also as frustrated as you are about these initial bumps in the road. Trust us ? we?re here working on them all day, every day.

and

Server Coming Down, New Theme
Howdy, everyone! Just a heads-up, that on November 5th, 6AM - 9AM PST, both the Shulgoth and Sydonai servers will be coming down for maintenance and patching. We?re shooting for our total downtime to be no longer than a few hours, so please, be patient. It?s also possible that one server might be up before the other, so don't worry if you can log onto only one of them - both will be coming back up.

During this downtime, we?re deploying a new patch that, amongst other things, has a new themed event: Guy Fawkes Day. Hellgate: London is celebrating Guy Fawkes Day. The holiday which is still celebrated in England, is held in remembrance of Guy Fawkes, who tried to kill King James I what in what became known as the Gunpower Plot. This story has been referenced in numerous pop culture media, from the Harry Potter books to the film V for Vendetta to the song Remember by John Lennon. It?s time to add Hellgate: London to the list!

frankly, i found the Halloween content *annoying* ... i kept tossing it out
-i seriously DOUBT i am going to subscribe ... However, count me in for further expansions!

How far along are you? Level 6 or 7 IS no different from level 5 where the demo ends ... keep going ..

--and "work" the system

*otherwise* it is an exercise in frustration

start over if you don't care for the way your Marksman plays

If you want a killing machine, i recommend the Blademaster ... much easier time then either the Guardian OR the Engineer. i'd say Marksman would be "hard" ... you rely on stealth and choosing upgrades is critical.
- and the story WILL change a bit so replay is good... if you are smoothly killing along, you are doing it right ... if not and you are having a hard time - figure where you need to put skills [or start over - i did, two more times; of course i was forced to lose my Blademaster in the Beta-wipe]
