help, can't reformat HD

This is with my old computer, who was having horrible slowdown problems when WinXP was on it, the 30Gb HD was partitioned into about 10 and 20Gb parts. It actually ran XP fine but for reasons not relevent began having problems.

So I decided to reformat it, and I didn't have my XP CD handy so just wanted to throw on win98. But when I go to fdisk I could not and cannot reformat the 20Gb part of the drive. I have successfully installed win98 on the 10Gb Primary Parition, BUT even though it lists the 20GB extended drive i cannot reformat it. Because when I go to reformat the 20Gb EXT drive I cannot delete the EXT partition when logical drives exist, but when I go to reformat any logical drives...it says no logical drives exist. I've never seen this before, any ideas? I kind of need access to the other 20Gbs or so on this computer.

Uh to recap the Primary partition is currently formatted FAT32 with win98 on it, while the 20Gb extended partition formatted via (cant remember what the type winxp uses, nfts? something like that) winxp sits there...

find the XP disk, and reformat. you should be able to boot w/ the 98 disk and reformat from dos.

Or download Maxblast from Maxtor's site. Works on WD's, old Quantums, and other drives etc. Bootable formatting prog that works quite well.

You'll have to delete the NON DOS partition (ntfs) before you can create a new fat32 partition & format it.

You can delete non dos partitions from FDISK
