Help chosing 17 lcd monitor

hi
i want to buy myself my first lcd screen.
my only demand is to see text as good as posible,i'm having eyestrains lately.

i'm not playing games and i would prefer it with DVI input and without speakers.

Don't really need DVI for text and all but the very cheapest LCD's display text very clearly and are easy on the eyes. I have only used Samsungs and some Hitachi's. All the Samsungs have an auto-adjust button which really makes the display nice and clear. The hitachi's I've used are good too though.

that's not true.i've seen some cheap monitors from mag,lg,benq and they weren very unimpressive loking at their coulers and texts.

i belive that the gameing issue,which probably most of you are taking as prime considration for peaking lcd, is secondly and the main object is the qulity of the screen.

I have an LG L1720B 17" and its got a very good quality display and is perfectly good for games since it has a 16ms response time, cost £350 though.

You need to buy monitors only on PVA or IPS matrixes. These are the following 17" models w/DVI : Samsung 171P, 172T, 173T, 173P, IIyama H430, Eizo L565, L557, Dell w/corners 170 degree only. At them the present 24-bit color.
NEC 1760NX, LG 1720, VS 171B/P - all this on TN matrixes. They for games, quality of a picture and corners bad. 18-bit + dithering.

I just bought 1703FP Dell LCD. My first LCD panel. I spent ton of a time researching for LCD and I'm not sure I made the right decision. My need is similar to yours, browsing and office apps mostly. I feel 17" is a bit small for 1280X1024 resolution. I'm typing this at 1024X768 resolution as it is easier on my eyes, but it is not sharp as it is not the native resolution for 17" LCD. I strongly suggest you go for 19" monitor. Since gaming is not important for you response time should not be a factor. If price is a constraint, go for a used monitor that still has some warrenty remaining on it.

If it is your first LCD, try it one from B&M stores and to avail yourself a chance to return.

the vp171b/s sure looked interesting choise,so i checked it out and found good things but bad ones too,such as the OSD always shows before starting and starting windows,the top is brightful than the bottom,and the brightness is enormous.

To work it is necessary only in the native resolution 1280õ1024 for 17-19". If it "is a bit small" - increase scale of fonts 120-140%.
But you are right. I have bought 19 " LCD to myself.

Yes. Especially IPS (S-IPS).

But i've noticed you had mentioned games along with the TN metrix,shouldn't that be the oposite?games=more colours?
never the less,do you have more exemple of companies ,like you've mentioned before?

i'm very happy you've mentioned that viewsonic uses the TN metrix ,cause i'm was thinking of buying its model vp171s,but now i'll chose the better metrix IPS or PVA.

Absence of ghosting is necessary for games. It is done by deterioration of corners of the review and reduction bit colors.

Advice: pay attention to an opportunity to lower brightness in the monitor. Frequently it happens by a problem.
