So, he has to limit himself to women with a skinny guy fetish? Being really thin is cool? Your response has caused my intarwebs multimeter to malfunction.

It caught me off guard as well. I had reserved my sarcasm meter for OT and couldn't tell if Muse's comments warranted it or not, haha.

Well, considering the fact that the vast majority are trying to lose weight, not gain it, the OP's problem might be seen as a nonproblem as long as he's healthy. Judging from the OP, I'd say he's not unhealthy, at least he doesn't seem to think he's unhealthy. If he's judged to be unhealthy based on the statistics (20 years old, 107 lb., 5'7"), well, I can't argue. I don't have an opinion on that. He says he's strong.

The calcium isn't in my view particularly involved in his posture concerns, although if he's got reduced bone density, that would be bad. If he's got medical insurance, he should pursue what that doctor said about the calcium and find out what his blood calcium level is and if it's actually low, have a bone density test to make sure his bones are strong.

I didn't say he has to limit himself to women with a thin guy fetish, I was just pointing out that they exist and he shouldn't assume he's not attractive just because he's thin. Look at Daniel Day Lewis in The Unbearable Lightness of Being. He did well enough with the women, eh?

Weights and weight room equipment are a very good way to put on muscle, everyone knows that. It can be very enjoyable, certainly. I suggested tennis and basketball only because they are big fun and don't seem arduous if you enjoy them. IMO, it's easier to love those sports than weight lifting. Some of the best built guys I've seen are that way for the most part because they loved basketball. The best tennis player in the world looks like a weakling, except for his legs, though. It's amazing the bodies that basketball freaks have.

True enough, the "face" guys will get play no matter what. So will the guys with a padded wallet. There are other reasons, to want to be more muscular and functionally stronger, besides women though.

He says he's strong.
@107lbs he can be strong for that weight, and still be weak comparatively speaking. Look, there is nothing wrong with wanting to look like a marathon runner, but GB evidently wants to pack on some mass, which there is also nothing wrong with.

I agree all around. My point was just that he could still score with the women and still be healthy. I'm not putting down on his desire to be more muscular.

OP,

You can just do what I did, gain weight by aging 15 years and eating junk food high carb low protein diet and drink lot s of beer. I can't guarantee that you'll have a great looking physique, but I can guarantee that people will come up to you ask ask you when you are expecting.

*Furiously clicks smiley*

The way you currently eat right now is what some people use to actually lose weight other then the milk.

If you can, fill up on some additional proteins

Good luck man... I've been the same weight for 5 years or so (ever since the end of high school).

The only way I managed to gain weight was to ride my bike around the country for 3 months. I put on ~15-18 pounds (MOSTLY muscle...) .

It was mostly gone 2-3 months after that though.

Proteins are required for building muscles, so add more protein to your diet and have high protein food like eggs, milk, peanut butter, protein shakes will help you in gaining weight. Weight training helps a person build muscles and increase body weight.

Good to know this thread is still active. But yea latest news is I weighed myself again after about 4 weeks and I just can't get a good reading. Must be my scale. Sometimes it says 112LBs and at others 105LBs? That's not much of an increase but I've been eating lots more. I was out of time for most of the 4 weeks and just got back home few days ago. I will try to keep up with my new diet and light weights and report back every week. As for the girls being attracted part; I am not unattractive or the girls think otherwise. And yes I do have a GF.

My 5' mom is heavier than me. Ouch!! and she's not fat!

It's probably genetics for you bud. I was pretty skinny while I was growing up. Then I hit 25 and it was all downhill from there.

My dad had the same thing. He was 5'9" and 120 until he had some kids and got a bit older. He's now about 180 something. Hopefully I can repel that whole thing :X

My experience:

This Site helped me alot. free info.

10 months ago I was 26 years old, 115lbs, 5'6".

I am now 27 years old, 150 lbs at 5'6". Note, I did not get taller. =P

What I did, was much like described. Increase frequency of meals and amount of calories. I bring in about:
- 175 grams of protein
- 160 gram of carbs
- 80 grams of fats
- less then 20 grams of saturated fats
- less then 20 grams of sugars

typical meal day
8am - multivitamin pill, whole weat bagel w/ honey/4tbs peanut butter
11:30am - lunch of usually .7lbs of meat w/ rice/noodles
3pm - tuna packet 40g protein
5:30pm - right after workout, 1-2scoops whey protein and water w/ 1 creatine unflavor
7pm dinner - .7lbs of meat w/ rice/noodles

That was half the battle, the other half was proper weight training:
3 day workout schedule, 1 hour workouts.

day1 - chest, back, abs
-benchpress, butterfly curls
-seated row, wide grip pull ups
-crunches, reverse crunches

day2 - legs, lower back, abs
-squats, lunges
-calf raises
-straight leg dead lift
-crunches, reverse crunches

day3 - arms, shoulders
-concentration curls, hammer curls
-bench dips, closed grip military press
-military press, dumbell raise front/side
-dumbell shrugs

*The number of sets was typically 3, the number of reps varied based on the exercise. I used pyramiding technique for usually 8 weeks on, then another style for 2 weeks, 1 week off, repeat. Pyramiding is where you do 12, 8, 6, reps of medium, heavy, very heavy weights. Tempo, TEMPO is the key, 2 second lift, 4 second controlled release. Breathe properly. You will be insanely sore the next day, easy short work outs that produce great results bulk wise.

My ideal meal day was usually pretty accurate. I screwed up weekends alot, 1 day is ok, i tried to limit the screw up day to once a week. Meats usually were chicken breast, steak, turkey. no sausage/pork. I don't like fish, so that doesn't help me, but can tolerate tuna. I really did work out 3 days a week religiously. I still do actually. I just split it into 4 days now actually. I do shoulders/shrugs/abs on day four, and do abs twice a week when i have time. Targetted muscle building is the only way to go. If you're not getting sore, then you are not lifting heavy enough, or you are lifting too fast or need to change to a new routine. (IE benchpress --> dumbell press for a while).

Personally, I have hit a genetic barrier I think. I am having a very hard time beating 150lbs. I know I am working out well, I still get very sore. The problem is I am not eating enough probably. I am still on the same diet plan and have not increased my calorie intake enough. It's expensive and I find it hard to cram that much food down now honestly.

The girlfriend loves my body by the way, that really really REALLY helps keep you motivated. Especially if you are single and the ladies keep compliments coming. But now I am just hooked on the sensation of being fit and feeling confident. I will likely continue this as long as I can to stay healthy. It apeals to my frugal nature as well, since it's cheaper then going to the hostpital for all kinds of medial related issues from bad health later.

Ok I weighed myself again (after 1 week) and I'm now ~110. I guess that's a start. I hope to be 125 in 3 months. Possible? I've been stuffing myself with food and doing light weights. I guess that is helping.

If you stuff yourself with food and do light weights, you're just going to get fat. That's not how you bulk. You gotta lift heavy and with low reps to get bigger. If you keep going what you're doing, it's not going to be awesome muscle, but an incorrect bulk. 15 pounds in 3 months isn't gonna be easy, but you're gonna have to eat a ton, lift hard (heavy, low reps), and be consistent.

Be careful with heavy/low-reps, though. If you aren't up to it, you can hurt yourself. It's better to only go heavy occasionally, maybe every 3rd workout at most. Talking 2-3 reps here. Ordinarily, maximize at a weight where you can do at least 6-8 reps, possibly more depending on how you are tolerating heavy/low-rep weights. Before going to that weight, warm up thoroughly with lighter weights. You're only 20, so you aren't as easily hurt as the older guys, but you can hurt yourself.

Basic strength exercises would include:

Chest: Bench presses: level, incline and decline
Squats (quads and gluts) or any of a variety of machines that also work the quadriceps
Leg curls for the hamstrings (machine of some kind, also hyperextension machine)
Pulldowns and various chin/pull-ups for trapesius (upper back)
Shoulders: Bench presses and dumbell work tailored to anterior, lateral and posterial deltoids

You can split your workouts into 2 or 3 different routines designed to accentuate certain muscle groups. Don't forget to work your abdominal muscles (i.e. "core"), front, side and back, and I think you should do them every workout. Never start heavy. Use lighter weights at first in any workout until you are well warmed up before tackling the heavier weights.

Be patient. Satisfy yourself that you are making progress and have reasonable goals. 15 pounds of muscle is a lot of muscle and don't expect to put that on in two months. 6 months or really a year is a more reasonable goal.
