Hi all, I'm currently using HD 4870 with reference cooling..
But, the temp. are hot like hell, especially the vram temperature..
It is about 93-100 C when full load..
And the core temp is about 73-81 C when full load..

I've set the fan running on 65%, and it just don't give me good result.. I've also point a side case fan directly towards the gpu..
Here is the quick link to my picture: ( It is above the PSU )

Btw, I've done some research to find nice cooler with good price/performance ratio, and of course the one I could easily find at my place..
Here they are:
1. Thermaltake Duorb AX
2. Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev2 (I will attach extra fan)
3. Thermalright V2 (I will attach extra fan)
4. Coolink Gfxchilla

Which one will give me best result on cooling my gpu core and vram??
Anyway, I read on some articles which says that some vram heatsink comes with 3rd party gpu cooler has a bad sticking material, is there anyway to solve this?

Accelero, definitely. The ramsinks that come with stuck quite well for me

Make sure you buy some VRM heatsinks. Ones from Zalman are pretty neat. Something like a Zalman VF1000 + Zalman RHS-90 is a good combo to cool your HD4870.

they work great, and are very cheap as well.

I've had two gripes with my Accelero

1) Installation is pretty silly, took me a bit to figure out.

2) The thickness. I had mine with two 92x25mm fans so the whole package is about 3" thick, which rules out and chance of crossfire or SLI. I got a scythe musashi for my 4890 since I'm planning on adding a second soon

I didn't know you could fit an Accelero on a 4870. I have an Accelero S2 I was going to use on my X800XT, but I'm looking at getting a 4890, do you think it would fit that, and keep it cool enough?

It would be on the warmer side of things, due to only two heatpipes, but with a 120mm fan on there it should cool about as well as the stock one, but being quieter

the stock cooler actually cools quite well. If you are getting crazy high temps there is most likely a problem. have you tried reseating the heatsink yet?

The stock cooler on my 4870 died after a month so I replaced it with a Scythe Musashi.
works great.No problems.

Feel free to believe whatever you want. The stock fan died so I installed a Musashi.
I also have a 120mm fan in the side fan holder about 3 inches from the 4870.
Right now RivaTuner shows core idling at 40c and memI/O at 53c

Edit:Running 3DMark06 and core temp was 53c and memI/O hit 72c.

VDDC slave #1,#2,#3 are your VRMs. memI/O is your memory controller on the gpu and core temp is totally unimportant, since it will always stay much cooler on a musashi then it would on stock cooler.
Check your VDDCs with GPU-Z and tell us what happens there.
