Help me choose HD4870 Cooling

I'll probably switch to copper sinks and add another 120mm side fan.That should do the job.

The problem with the VRM heatskinks on 4870 is that there isn't enough heat exchange surface on them, so even made of copper, they won't be enough to dissipate the tremendous amount of heat those little chips are generating. And from what I know, the Musashi cooler sits very close to the card, so adding a larger, taller heatsking on the VRMs, it's impossible, since it doesn't fit under. It's such a pity, that Thermalright and Zalman have released, after so much time, heatsinks that are finally able to cope with the 4870 VRMs heat output.

So, you would need something likethis to keep them cool enough. Little copper heatsinks won't cut it, no matter the airflow. Maybe it fits under the Musashi, I don't know. Check it out.

yeah it does fit close. I tried modding the original sink but that didn't work.I don't O/C my video cards (never felt the need to) so stock volts and good temps on the core. I do have good case airflow with 5x120mm fans.I might sell this card and get a 4890.

Hi all, what is VRM actually? (Sorry, I'm still a newbie)
Anyway, I've tried using GPU-Z after I installed Scythe Musashi..
This is the result upon full load:
GPU Temp (DISPIO): 50 C
GPU Temp (MEMIO) : 72 C
GPU Temp (SHADERCORE): 60 C

But I thought that it has done a wonder for me...
Before I used the Scythe Musashi, the temperature would be so hot like hell..
The temperature under load are:
GPU Temp (DISPIO): 78 C
GPU Temp (MEMIO) : 100 C

So, in my opinion, it has done a great job for me, even with a very slim design..
It also comes with silent fans..
