Help me please!

So first off here is the new system I built:

So it arrived on Monday and I spent the rest of the day putting it together. After getting it to turn on I configured the BIOS and installed WindowsXP Professional. Everything was going fine until I downloaded updated drivers from the Nvidia website for the Personal Cinema Card. The machine was trying to install the drivers and kept restarting just before the end of installation. I finally removed the new drivers and started working at restoring the old ones. The problem was I kept getting error messages from various programs and despite uninstalling and reinstalling almost everything it still wasn't working right. I couldn't get the error messages to disappear. I decided to put in the WinXP cd and format the HD and reinstall XP.

Here is where my big problem starts. The install hangs for quite some time so I restart the computer. After waiting a while I was presented with an error message by the install program. Something along the lines of "An I/O device prevented a file needed from being installed, Installation cannot continue." Then the computer restarts and gives the same message after restarting setup. This message will not go away. I also saw a flash of a blue screen and figured there might be a memory issue but I switched the memory and the same issue. I really need all the help I can get. Please

Bump your memory voltage to 2.7 volts in the motherboard's BIOS and start from the top. It sounds like Windows has gotten corrupted. If you're using fancy rounded IDE cables, bail them for flat 80-wire IDE cables too.

Also understand that if you don't have a firewall (hardware firewall and/or software firewall), your WinXP SP1A installation is a sitting duck for attacks by worm-infected computers on the Internet. I suggest downloading this patch kit from Microsoft as well as ZoneAlarm basic free firewall software, burning them to CD, and having them both installed on the system before you ever plug the network cable into it or install your nVidia driver package (which includes the network drivers that enable the onboard NIC and expose you to the Internet).

If you have a hardware firewall/router unit between your computer and your modem then that'll keep the worms at bay, however. They're affordable and their protection is always on, so if you need an excuse to pick one up, there ya go You can even blame me when your wife (if you have one) gripes about you throwing good money after bad :evil: Hehe... welcome to the Forums and let us know how it goes.

If you have trouble finding that voltage setting on the Gigabyte, let me know and I'll download the manual tomorrow and help you dig it up. Gigabyte has advanced features hidden and pressing CTRL F1 will bring up those hidden features for you to tinker with, if that helps.
