I am in the process of doing a build for my in-laws and it is not going well. I could use some help BAD! I have been out of the loop for building for a couple of years, so please bear with my as I have some shortcomings comprehending all of the new equipment.
The build is as follows:
ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO (MOBO)
WD Caviar SATA 160GB HD
Athlon II X2 250 CPU
2 GIG Crucial RAM
Antec 350 watt power supply.

The problem: I cannot get this thing to post. No beeps at all, just running fans and no keyboard lights, no display, nothing, nada. I have checked all of the connections and they all seem good. I have a solid green light on the board once I power it up, but nothing else.

My guess is the power supply. It is an older 20 pin PS and the board calls for at least a 300 watt 24 pin PS. Now... I read the manual and it says that a 20 pin PS can be used as long as the 12V is at least 15A. This PS has a max of 21A, so I should be good, right? I did find it weird that I had to plug the connector all the way to the right to get it to fit. I am open to any and all suggestions, as I need to get this up and running quick. I would rather get some feedback before I go out and buy another PS for no reason.

One other note, I am using the on-board video, as I did not want to spend the extra $$ on a separate video card.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks is advance!

The PSU is the problem. It doesn't have the power to run the system. Sure 350W is enough but if there isn't enough of that power going to the 12V rails the system won't run. You need to get a new PSU with a new build. Its the last item you want to go cheap on. A cheap PSU can easily lead to the death of otehr system components.

Check the PS with your ATX power supply tester and report what the voltages read.

There's nothing 'cheap' about an Antec 350W and it's plenty power to run that system. Now maybe it's a non-working ps, but if it was working in another computer then I seriously doubt it's the problem here.

If it was an Earth Watts i would agree. But since its an older PSU with only a 20 pin main connector its not an earth watts. So its one of the older moddles from the days when Antec wasn't making good quality PSUs. Not to mention the problems involved with the age of the PSU.

haha, were they both gathered around and watching as you were pressed the power button?
i could imagine the beads of sweat coming down your face when it produced no display as you struggled to explain to them why it won't boot.

Just going to throw in my experience and 2cents.

I had the same issues happen to me on my first build. I even had the same issue with the 20pin connector but 24pin mobo. The PSU wasn't the issue for me. I had bad ram! I assume you did crucial's memory detector for your motherboard.

I don't know, good luck!
