Simply put, i knocked the surge protector out of wall and my system was on. No big deal, pluged it back in, turned computer back on, and got a Systemced error after post when 2k was booting.
Poped the 2k cd in, f6 and loaded the sata drivers from floppy. Got to recovery console and folled the steps on this site.:
http://www.jayroos.com/tech/ar...a-SYSTEMced-Error.html
I did the following steps:
The system booted, however all my drivers were gone. 15min's later i was back up and running with all my drivers reinstalled.
Tried to complete the rest of the steps on the site, however the program would not load the damaged hive file. I assume thats that.
So, here i am now. I just booted up steam and tried to run a half life mod (natural selection) and it seems the system is lagging hard. like i run forward, but its as if i am holding the button down, then taking it off...down....off... The fps in game are not dropping: (80-99), and the system is showing around 60% cpu used on one core and the other is ~2% used.

Question:
Sorry for the explanation. Am i screwed here? Do i need to reinstall all my crap to rebuild the registry with the game entries? Or is this just one of those instances where a format is really the only real solution. I would really like to avoid a format. its been a year or two now...My internet is only 40kb down here so it could be a long a ugly road.
On another note, the system boots and shuts down freaky fast now...

I did the following steps:
# Use the Windows 2000 CD-ROM or Windows 2000 startup floppies to boot up.
# Choose R to enter the repair menu.
# Choose C on the repair menu to run the console.
# Select the installation of Windows you wish to repair and enter the administrator password.
# Type cd system32\config and press enter.
# Rename the bad SYSTEM hive and its alternate by typing ren system system.bad then enter and ren system.alt systemalt.bad then enter.
# If you have run the Emergency Disk Wizard in the Windows Backup program, type copy C:\WINNT\Repair\Regback\system and press enter. Most if not all of your drivers will already be installed.
# If you have not run the Emergency Disk Wizard type copy C:\WINNT\Repair\system and press enter. This is the default system hive and you will likely have to install drivers when you reboot.
# Remove any CDs or floppies and type exit and press enter to reboot.
