i did a virus scan and norton found the sub seven server in a zip file. i tried to repair and then when that wasnt sucessful i had to quarentine it. i ve checked all over the web and found that it can be installed on ones system 4 different ways ( 2 in the registry one in the sys.ini and one in the win.ini.)i checked all four locations and found nothing. ive downloaded the trial version of mcafee and it found nothing. i am haveing a problem opening one program. i get an error type message that looks something like this. excuse the crude drawing. can anybody please help? TIA!

SubSeven is a trojan. You don't clean it, you delete it. The message you're getting is an error message unrelated to SubSeven.
Delete the zipfile with ss in it, then go try and find a clean version of whatever it is you wanted.
The error message has to do with user rights: These are set by policy on NT & W2K machines--I assume that's what you're running?

RE: Subseven...like woodie said, just delete it. Then check those four different locations for RUN reference to it and delete those.
What program are you trying to run that dies. I must say, that's totally UNRELATED to the subseven problem. Perhaps you have another virus?
My advice: ALL PC users should have antivirus and a personal firewall program on their PC's. If everyone was smart enough to do this, the world of computers would be a much better place.

i have scanned my system with both Norton and Macafee. i used Norton utilities windows doctor and repaired all the problems it found. i checked the four other sources and found nothing. (win.ini,sys.ini and two reg keys) when the virus was first found it tried to repair, when that was unsucessful i had to quarentine it. later i deleted the files and ive gone over the same steps three times now. and found nothing that relates to the sub seven trojan. also i am behind a firewall on my home network and like i said i have norton and Macafee antivirus programs.(wich now arent finding any viruses) woody thought i was on an NT system but im on Win98se, so how can i have a system admin? i am the system admin.the only thing that makes sense is that the sub seven left something behind. i m sure my computer is not acting as a server anymore but a system policy was left behind some how wich would explain the message. who ever was acting as my unofficial admin locked me out of opening up stand alone type exe files. where can i find the instructions for this type of policy in win98se?
