help with a pos compaq

not sure wth is up with this thing. It's a pesario 5245. not sure on all the specs. i am trying to install a 200gig HD in it with a fresh copy of windows xp on the HD. everytime windows install gets to 7% it starts to get errors alot. i tried to switch out ide cables and stuff cause i have had issue where the hard drive was on the secondary channel instead of primary before but that didn't fix it this time. The cd i know is good and so is the cd-rom.

Anyone have a clue as to why i am getting errors?

A lot of the time when you get errors during a Windows install, you have some bad RAM...

If you have more than one stick of RAM in there, take one out and try it... if you still get errors, try the other stick... Hopefully that will resolve your problems - and heck, gives you a reason to upgrade!

Don't think its a ram thing, however Ican be wrong.
I think the problem is that your Motherboards BIOS does not support a 200GB drive if its an old system, have you tried updateing your BIOS?

While you are correct that it probably will not support a 200gb drive, It should still see at as at least a smaller drive.

Personally I don't think that would have anything to do with an install error of Windows...
