help with A8N-SLI Deluxe

I just put together my new rig today. Everything seemed to go well until i connected everything and flipped the power switch on the PSU.

When i turn things on the fans start spinning and the green "SB power" LED on the Asus board flashes constantly. No POST, no boot sequence nothing. According to the manual the green LED should light up when power is turned on indicating the the board is getting power. Nowhere in the manual does it explain what a flashing LED indicates. The HDD LED on the front of the case is also flashing red at approx 5 second intervales. Again there is no explanation of this in the manual.

I've checked the Asus sight but was not able to find anything to help me.

I realize I'm not giving a lot of information here, but hopefully someone has seen this before or can direct to a source for an answer. I'm not even sure where to start diagnosing the problem.

After a long day of building I'm getting pretty frustrated and would appreciate any help.

That board has the new 24 pin atx connector, are you using a 24 or 20 pin atx psu? you can use a 20 pin, but it has to be inserted correctly, or it will cause you problems, and possibly fry your board. I have heard of a couple of people puting it in incorrectly, read the section regarding that in the manual over again, and make sure you have it hooked up right.

2) Do you have the 20 or 24-pin ATX plug in the motherboard connected properly in addition to the 4-pin +12v ATX plug?
3) Are you using 2 PCI-E video cards?
4) How many sticks of memory?

Please list everything in your case as well as how you have things connected.

Sounds like your video card to me. Are you using a single video card or two in SLI?

The board has a 24 pin connector and the psu comes with a 20 so i bought an adapter and used that. I can't see a problem with that part.


1) What brand and wattage power supply are you using? ANTEC TRUEPOWER 550W
2) Do you have the 20 or 24-pin ATX plug in the motherboard connected properly in addition to the 4-pin +12v ATX plug? BOTH PLUGS ARE ATTACHED TO THE MOBO
3) Are you using 2 PCI-E video cards? ONLY 1 PCI-E CARD FOR NOW
4) How many sticks of memory? 2 STICKS OF CORSAIR TWINX1024-LLPRO IN SLOTS 2 AND 4 AS THE THERMALRIGHT XP-120 HEATSINK DOES NOT ALLOW ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE RAM IN SLOT 1.

Well, i went back and reseated all cards and power plugs - everything except the processor, and I'm back in business.

Now i'm struggling with trying to install XP on a RAID disk.
