Help with A8V problem !!!!!

Just setup system with A8V deluxe, 64-3500, 512mb OCZ pc3200 premier edition, Radeon 9800se,WD sata 80gb, Enermax 465watt psu. The hard drive is connected to Sata1 , and in the bios setup it is not seeing the drive. What am I doing wrong and what should the setting be in the bios in order for the drive to be regognized? This is the only hard drive in the system. Also a buddy gave me the cpu, How can I tell if it is a winchester or newcastle?

Which BIOS--the board or the RAID controller? Do you have the correct controller enabled?

There are 2 SATA controllers, VIA (black connectors) and Promise (red conenctors). You will need to create a floppy with drivers for either one, depending on the one you are using. This has to be done on a different working computer.

This is from the manual, you go to Run then d:\drivers\viaraid\6420raid\driverdisk\makedisk.exe to create the VIA Sata drivers

When Windows install starts you will be prompted to hit F6 to load any SCSI drivers. At this point the floppy that you created with the above command will be loaded as part of the install process.

I installed my A8V w/ 3500+ Winchester a few days ago and had no problem installing the OS on a single 160GB Sata drive on the Via controller (Black Sata 1)

My A8V Bios is 1007, my 3500+ is a 90nm but there is no way to tell other than to look up the model #. Even the box makes no mention of 90nm.

Got it done, You know there is an old saying that, If all else fails read the instructions. Install went without a hitch, Thanks Tallman45.
