Help with Biostar M7VKD MOBO

A friend of mine asked me to set up a computer for her. This is her first PC, and she doesn't want to cast a fortune on it. So I grabbed a biostar M7VKD MOBO and an Athlon 900 (200FSB) processor from newegg.

I hooked up the FDD, HDD, CDROM, Video Adapter, processor, and memory as usual. However, when I pushed the power button, there was no signal on the monitor, and no beep emitted actually, the fans worked well though. I removed the HDD, CDROM, same thing; and switched memory on different memory slots, same thing; changed memory, tried AGP or PCI video cards, still unsuccessful. I noticed that some jump was needed, and I think I made it correctly. I made all the changes that I can think of (thanks to my wonderful KT7A-Raid), so I start suspecting that the board itself is bad, but the board was discontinued on newegg.

Please give me some help. Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Sounds like you've tried a lot of things already. I would make sure the motherboard is not grounding out on the case. Assuming you have metal motherboard standoffs, make sure you have them in the right location and no extras. You can also try removing your motherboard from the case and place it next to the case.

Try extracting the RAM sticks and try with only one of them. These mobos are known to have poor quality memory slots, a lot of force has to be done in order to insert the DIMM correctly, no cooper conectors had to be seen once they are properly inserted. I only build two systems, and have the problem in both. One M7VKL is actually my spare computer and my girfrinend used it every day, works fine but have some integrated sound issues. Also, once you make it work, ensure you have the las BIOS upgrade installed, since they have a problem of RAM stability, you'll meet it when you enter in 3D mode with some game, and found that the machinne reset, hang or gets back to Windows after 30 secs. Good luck!.

In the second system I've build, I place the memories before putting the mobo in the case, just put the mobo over a pile of pappers and then insert the DIMMs, then put the mobo in the case.

Thanks, Lanyap, yes, that's the problem, I took the motherboard out of the case, it's just fine, so I finally put some foam between the standoffs and the motherboard, now it worked like a rock. Installed windows xp flawlessly.

Also, many thanks, White wizard. You guys are really helpful.
