help with new laptop hdd

old hdd actin up... replacing before full failure...

Have new hdd in USB 2.0 enclosure. Hitachi 7k100.
DO I format it to ntfs and then back up my old hdd to it? Then run the new one in laptop?

Acer has the dang thing set to fat32 (old hhd).

Or should I just install xp and reload the latest hardware updates from the ACEr site for this laptop?

Well the easy way is to intall the new hard disk and use the recovery cd to put back the os image . and after recovery is over u can convert the fat partion to NTFS partion using command the "convert" command

But the better way always is to start it from scratch make more than one partion and Install XP load the driver and programs u want ..then after u r done make a Ghost Image of the current partion to other partion and later write it on cd/dvd

May have to do all that. The hdd is going bad, but after recovering last week, the notebook ran for a few hours, then started to go poof again.

MAy do the recover to the new HD, but I don't think it will all work..
Acer has a ntfs drive and the fat32 drive on the same hdd.
A lot of the restore items seem to be on the 'd' drive.

Maybe worth a shot, though.
