Somebody please help. I can not boot of my copy of Windows 2000 Pro. Edittion. I have the Bios set to boot from scsi and I have the scsi card(Diamond Fireport 40) set to enable boot from cd. It starts to boot from the cd but then it says
CDBOOT:Couldn't find NTLDR
CDBOOT: Memory overflow error.

Then just goes to c: (Because I formatted with format c:\ /s)
This happens with my friends copy also.

Does anyone know what is wrong.

Thanks
Schola

Bad CD. The fact that it's asking for NTLDR could mean that it is at least reading the CD.

-SUO, just guessing

Yes I have used this cd before to install windows 2000 on this machine, the only difference is that I have used a IDE Cdrom to do it and it works fine. But not with either my scsi panasonic burner or my pioneer DVD. If it is a bad cd then why is my friends copy not working either.
Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep them coming.

do you have your scsi bios enabled?

can you boot off of any other cd?

if you boot with a win98 startup floppy can you access the cd drive?

if so you can install it that way

Yes the scsi bios is enabled and yes I can boot of the windows 98cdrom. I can also boot from a floppy I can not access the cdrom. It takes about 30min to boot off a floppy when you select start with cdrom support. It likes to hang at the PCI detection stage, but eventually it will get to the c: prompt.
Keep the suggestions coming and thanks

I had a FirePort 40 and had to make a special boot disk to enable the CDROM. The Windows boot disk does not have the proper drivers on it.
symcd.sys and one other one I belive. I have since gotten a 29160
If you need help let me know

Yes if there is anyway you could email me what you had so that I can make a boot disk using my laptop that would be great, I would be entirely in your debt. I really need to get this machine back up.
Thanks

Edit: Forgot to give you my email, it is hcndeehan@yahoo.com

Although I'm not explicity familiar with your SCSI card, it sounds like Dan176 is on the right track. If you have access to another machine, take a look at the readme files on the Win2k CD. You can easily view the TXT files in DOS, but if memory serves, there's a DOC on the root of the CD which explains specific hardware issues one may encounter.

Best regards,

Ok, I just looked though the readme.doc but I really did not see anything that was related to this. Are there other .doc files that I need to see. I will look though this readme.doc again but...
Thanks
Schola

Edit: Could useing the makeboot.exe or makebt32.exe for making a boot disk possible help? Found those files in the /bootdisk directory on the cd.

I just popped in my CD and don't see any additional documents which pertain to the subject. Yes, you can most definitely use the makeboot executable to create the 4 boot diskettes...it's agonizingly slow compared to CD, but it may well be the best solution if the CD problem can't be sorted out.

It makes 4 disk you say. Holly crap. Does it still use the cd then or what does it exactly do. I don't have 4 disk. I only have 2, guess I will have to scrape togther to go get some. I mostly use Ls-120's because that is what my main system has.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks for floyd for the good tip, will give it a try when I get the disks togther.

The 4 diskettes are needed because Win2k setup loads virtually every device driver known to man. The intention is to eliminate the need for the user to provide any drivers manually (although, if needed, you can do so by pressing F6 when prompted). After all of the drivers and associated setup files are loaded into memory, it will begin accessing the CD-ROM to copy files to the hard drive. I'm fairly confident you won't have any problems if you can get the setup diskettes created.

Diskettes are generally thought of as the scourge of computers, the bastard son if you will. But when all else fails, they are your bestest friend
