Im really confused... I basically disconnected all the wires, made them neat and reapplied the heatsink to the processor with thermal grease. The processor is fine.. I push the on button and it all goes on as if it were about to start (fans, HDs and whatnot spin.. speakers make that starting pop..) and then before it really does anything within 5 sec of pushing on, it shuts off?

HELP? ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS??? I probably made some stupid ditzy mistake but I can't think of anything!

Do you have spacers in between your motherboard and any piece of metal that could conduct electricity hitting ur case and mobo at the same time? you might be grounding out the electricity.

sounds like you are overheating. like oldman420 said heatsink on the cpu or the powersupply or cpu fan failure sounds like a culprit. try going into the bios and sitting there. read the temps after a minute and see what they are. if the bios stays up it sounds like a heat issue with the cpu to me

what motherboard are you using? Often the manual has info relating to startup failure that can be really helpful. Are there any beeps that go along with? By the sound of it your not getting a video signal, so try reseating the memory to difffrent slots. And make sure the dimms are secure.

Did you plug the CPU fan back in? No rpm signal on the CPU fan header will make most boards shut down.

Yep, make sure it's oriented like this. Also, if it has a clip that can slide back and forth a bit in the heatsink's body, such as a Thermalright heatsink, check out my tips here.

Which HSF?

I worked on the same problem all morning. Come to find out, I was putting too much torque on the MB with my Thermalright SP94.
