Help!!!

So..I plug in my Hot Sync thingie for my palm pilot into my second computer via a free parallel port, and the screen locks up. No biggie, I thought, I just rebooted my machine and thought everything would be ok.

Well, it wasnt D:

I got 1 long beep and 3 short beeps, that's supposed to mean a "conventional and extended test failure" right? But...what does that mean?
I tried rebooting a few more times, a few times BIOS would start up, although the text would appear all garbled. I tried to get into setup, but no luck. It would count the memory then go black.

Any ideas? I really hope this stupid palm pilot didn't fry my motherboard..

Into your parallel port? Sure it wasn't supposed to go into a serial port?

What type of mobo do you have. Try looking on the manufacturers web site or doing a search and see if you can find out what the beep codes mean.

Disconnect all of you peripherals, except for the necessary ones (Floppy Disk Drive, Video Card, Keyboard) and boot to a bootable floppy diskette. During this POST and Bootup sequence you should be able to enter you BIOS. If entering the BIOS works and you can reboot, the let the system boot up to the floppy diskette. If this sequence works than add your HDD and try to boot to it. As these tasks prove successful, continue to add one component at a time until you find the culprit.

However, if you can't even POST, then either the BIOS data is corrupt and needs to be reset manually through the motherboard, you have a CMOS/BIOS virus, you have faulty memory, your video card is the culprit or you have an issue with your motherboard.

strange...after opening the case up, unplugging and plugging back in a few random things, it works perfectly now.
