IBM Thinkpad R31
Celeron 1.0 ghz
768 meg RAM
12 gig hard drive

The hard drive overheats if I use it all day. Generally I'm not able to do any more work on it after 3 PM (sometimes as early as 1 PM).
It has been this way for 2 months, and MIS refuses to do anything.

I am in charge of all PC upgrades, so I just treated myself to a mild one. I don't buy anything over the edge for work, but it works great for a work system.

HP7100:

2.8P4, 512. Brought in my old Sony E400 19"CRT as they only provided the 17" version at work. LCDs are being gradually phased in.

Not a bad system really...

At my last job I had a 400mhz celeron with 512 megs ram (originally) and a 19inch monitor with a 1000va ups. Over the course of 18 months, the Monitor the ups and 384megs of the RAM were requisitioned for use by members of the sales team who complained that their computer was too slow. When I made similar complaints I was told that the delay was acceptable for me because I "know how to fix problems" That was until I went to the server room, grabbed one of our unused servers (dual xeon power edge) and hooked it up under my desk, but I left the 400mhz desktop on my desk so that everyone thought that I was still using it. Over the next few months, I also got my hands on a geforce 6800gt that we'd bought for a video editing machine (don't ask, they never listened to my recommendations) and put it in my box. Had a pretty sweet CS:S machine for a while there
