I had a San Diego business trip scheduled for 10/23 to 10/27, as I was to get a ride to the airport at 5:40am. On 10/23 2am, Carolyn, my wife, woke me up and told me of contractions 5-10mins apart with nausea and diarrhea. I brushed it off as Braxton-Hicks because I was looking forward to my trip and selfishly didn't want to deal with it. After 30mins, she decided that we needed to go, so we hurriedly got dressed and left.
It's amazing how little traffic there is on Hwy50 to Folsom at 2:30am. Cruising at 90mhp was effortless as I admitted to Carolyn of my selfishness and how bad I feel for it. At 2:45am, she was already in a bed and working through progressively harsher contractions.
With blood clotting issues with our first child, she has been taking low-dose aspirin upon recommendation from her doctor. Now that her blood has been thinned by months of aspirin, she couldn't clot fast enough for an epidural (pain meds through the spine). She was miserable w/o any medication! By the time other pain meds were being considered, she was ready to push! The pushing part went by very quick...5-6 sets of pushing finally got the little guy out.
Anyway, I'm off to see him at the Neonatal unit, so I won't be able to answer any questions promptly. I'll post more details as I get them.
