Hide the Pproxy?

Is it possible to run the Dnet Pproxy (313) hidden in Win98? I have it running set to lurk only on my ICS server so that it will update when ever there is a dialup connection. Problem is, a family member INSISTS on using that computer for net surfing (says he needs to see the lights on the modem). I wouldnt mind, but he is constantly shutting down the pproxy causing some of my cows to chew on randoms until I discover the problem. Any help?

It's even more annoying than when he disconnects without checking to see if anyone else is online just because he's done (dialup is set to disconnect after 8 min of inactivity anyway...which I cant get him to understand either). At leats then I dont endup with randoms.

install it as a service, it will then start up with windows and be hidden.

proxy won't allow you to install it as a service on Win9x. Only NT.

How do You install it as a service? I dont think it has -install as a valid flag option.

It does have an -install option, but will only work on NT/2k, not 9x.

upon closer inspection it appears that -install does work I suspect when I tried it I must have capitalized something. I've run into problems with that b4 :|

If it install's as a service under 9x, then it's something new to me. The version I'm using here at home, which is several months old, won't allow service installation on a 9x box.

If nothing else works you can always use Hide-It!, a usefull little utility that allows you to completely hide any window (complete with the button on the taskbar) and even your desktop icons, if desired. You can also program it to hide windows with a certain text-string in the title automatically

OK, I found a reference to HideIt in Dnet's faq (readme was no help at all) last night before I went to sleep, downloaded and installed, figured all was well. Since the system is protected by a UPS, I figurd there wouldnt be a problem. Get home from work at midnight, go to my main system (Athlon 700 @ 876) and see its out of blocks. Go to the basement, find that someone rebooted the server, then closed the pproxy when it started up! Played with Hide-it and found how to set it to auto hide, rebooted to test, and it looks like I'm safe now.

A version of the proxy that would automatically load into the systray like the client would sure be nice to have. Would have saved me much stress.

This all happened in addition to similar problems at work. One of the cleaners vaccuuming in the office managed to shut down the UPS protecting all our CCTV system, access control system, and monitoring system for burg and fire alarms in all of the company's stores, factories, and warehouses in the US and Canada. third time he's done it in a month (1st: unplugged 1 of 2 lines out of the UPS, 2nd: turned off power switch on UPS, 3rd: dont know what happened, but he smacked the front of the thing and everything died!).
