High readings on PS

Ok, I'm pretty sure this is bad. Motherboard Monitor reports the +5V at 7.81V and the +12 at 17.75. What do you think?? Time for a new PS???? This is on the KT7-Raid.

Are those reading stable, or are they jumping around? If it's stable I wouldn't worry about it.

yep, they're stable............just seams kind of high

I've never seen them that high.

However, I've found that the same healthy supply shows two completely different readings on two different motherboards. If your 12V was almost 18V, your computer wouldn't even run! That is really out of tolerance. Sounds like a Winbond chip gone south.

Check your BIOS to see what IT is reporting as well.

What does the BIOS Read for those voltages? MM is not as compatible with VIA chipset as it should be at times. To be SURE ... Install VIA Hardware Monitor and compare readings. Believe BIOS First and VIA Second, Motherboard Monitor 3rd and Sandra last. (Sandra's readings are almost always wrong for Voltages and Temps)

ok, I should've figured that one out on my own.

Bios reads
12V - 11.7V
5V - 5.08V

I've had 2 power supplies give me great deviations from the +-5 and +-12 and I learned the hard way. First time, my motherboard fried but the CPU was still good. Second time, on another computer, the MB and CPU went with it. A great learning lesson.

I've also had cheap power suppies from Fry's Electronics. Bought a case from them, took it home, powered it up, and flames and smoke came out of the PS. Now that's a load of crap.

Yes, but I still should have put a little more effort into figuring out what was wrong before I posted it.

Have you tried checking the PS with a simple multimeter instead of relying on the MB sensors?
