Well, actually, pretty near the mark!
If you look at the balance of policy actions of Bill Clinton and Obama they would be considered right of center in the republican party of the 1970's. The repubs have moved further and further right over the last 30+ years.
Bill Clinton signed GATT, NAFTA and the WTO into law after years of failure by republicans to achieve the same goals.
Back in the 80's the dems were in the wilderness at the national level and were constantly outspent by repubs and often by huge margins. Bill Clinton was one of the dems invited to study the problem and look for a way to make the dems more relevant. His run in 92 displayed his solution ... become an economic republican and give Wall St what they want. And it worked!
The problem is that we now have two parties: republicrats and wacko conservative republicans. There are small differences at the margins and both sides play up the social differences to play to there base.
Meanwhile, the middle class has been set adrift on a raft with no food and water!
